Volunteer Court Support Truro
Job description
CASSPLUS provides advice and support in the courts to aid resettlement and reintegration with the aim of reducing offending.
Teams provide free, impartial and confidential advice and signposting to clients on a wide range of issues, such as; housing, substance misuse, physical/mental health, employment, education & training, benefits and debts.
The purpose of the service is to reduce re-offending by increasing access to whatever community services are most appropriate to each offender
The CASSPLUS desk is located within the court building and the service is targeted primarily at, but is not exclusive to, defendants whose offence is not serious enough to warrant a community order.
Main duties and responsibilities
- Identifying clients support needs and providing advice, signposting and referrals as and when necessary.
- Act as an advocate for clients.
- Maintaining confidential case records and administrative systems.
- Being able to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team.
- Work in adherence to CASSPLUS' policies and procedures.
- Respectful of views, values and cultures that are different to their own.
Skills and requirements:
- Good written English;
- Reliability and punctuality;
- Ability to work positively and supportively in a small team;
- Able to understand and empathise with the needs of the clients;
- A commitment to the aims and principles of the CASSPLUS desk service;
- Being open and approachable;
- Ability to communicate clearly both orally and in writing;
- Ability to sift through complex information and extract what is relevant
- Respect for views, values and cultures that are different to their own;
- Ability to work confidentially and sensitively with other people's data;
- Good IT skills;
- Willingness to undertake training and work on personal development

Re-imbursement for all reasonable travel expenses incurred as a result of volunteering for CASSPLUS, in accordance with CASSPLUS volunteer expense policy.
We have a team of volunteers and staff who have experience in many different areas and can provide support when needed.
