About the role:


Leadership of the Loans and Exhibitions team in the effective management and development of the Museum's programme and resources for all inward and outward loans.

Support and manage the implementation of Museum strategies for loans, exhibitions and touring exhibitions, and see that resources are managed appropriately.


Key areas of responsibility:


  • Leadership and management of the Loans and Exhibitions team.
  • Ensure delivery of the Museum's inward and outward loans programmes in support of the Museum's key objectives, including logístical matters, identification and management of risk, significant international procedural variations and lender requirement, and relevant legal and legislative issues.
  • Manage the implementation and review of Museum procedures and documentation for loans.
  • Ensure Museum staff are aware of and comply with licences, legal requirements, statutory obligations, and best practice standards with regard to loans.
  • Ensure implementation of consistent and effective processes and reporting on all loans and exhibitions.
  • Coordinate with the Registrar: Collection and Documentation for the efficient management of Museum's collection and loan activities to ensure that collection administration is effectively prioritised and resourced.

About you:


  • Substantial experience as a loans and/or exhibitions registrar in a museum or cultural institution
  • Project management qualification or equivalent experience
  • Knowledge of museum and cultural sector in a management role, familiar with analysing processes and procedures and developing improvements to practice
  • Facility with the processes of risk management in a cultural setting, transporting and displaying significant art and heritage objects
  • Excellent communication and negotiation skills: articulate, persuasive, flexible
  • Ability to synthesise and report on information orally and in writing.
  • Confident user of ICT.
  • Experienced in writing planning and strategy documents and formal reports.
  • Excellent coordination, time management; ability to prioritise and allocate resource appropriately.
  • Experience of line management
  • Experience of stakeholder management
  • Ability to understand and manage budgets.
  • Ability to work within a variety of different teams.
