Volunteer Co-ordinator


Job Title:
Volunteer Co-ordinator**
Employer: Wirral Change, St Laurence's School, St Laurence Drive, Birkenhead, CH41 3JD


Responsible To:
Deputy CEO


Salary:
£23,000 pro rata


Contract hours: 21 hours per week


List of duties

  • To coordinate and maintain the process for recruitment of Wirral Change volunteers, including:_
  • Take lead responsibility for ensuring a sufficient number of volunteers are available to support across Wirral Change.
  • Create content to promote volunteering opportunities at Wirral Change using social media platforms, print media and events.
  • Ensure volunteer journey is consistent for all Wirral Change volunteers.
  • Monitor volunteer levels, retention and feedback.
  • Work with Team Leaders and the Deputy CEO to ensure recruited volunteers are allocated to relevant staff.
  • Liaise with, and support, Team Leaders to identify potential volunteers.
  • Arrange and attend meetings with outside agencies to help recruit potential volunteers and promote volunteering opportunities.
  • To set up a peer mentoring program for asylum seekers and migrants.
  • To set up Life Skills training for asylum seekers and migrants with partner organizations and peer mentors.
  • To train and upskill volunteers and peer mentors.
  • Minimum of 3 years experience working with volunteers required.

Main Duties_

  • To contribute towards the development and ongoing review of the volunteer recruitment strategy and meet annual recruitment targets set.
  • Take an innovative approach to recruiting volunteers and think of new ways to encourage interest, using outreach, events, marketing materials and other types of promotion.
  • Create online content to engage all parts of the community across social media online platforms.
  • To set up and run a peer mentoring program run for asylum seekers and migrants by asylum seekers and migrants.
  • Organise and conduct initial meetings with volunteers, dependent on the area of volunteering.
  • To work with Team Leaders and the Operational Manager to set up Life Skills training for asylum seekers and migrants with partner organisations and peer mentors.
  • To ensure training for volunteers and peer mentors is relevant and up to date, sessions are booked regularly, and records of attendance kept up to date.
  • Devise a document which will allow volunteers to give feedback on the training which is provided from Wirral Change or outside agency.
  • Maintain volunteer records using the appropriate software.
  • To develop a volunteer reward program to recognising the contribution they make.
  • Organise and chair quarterly meetings on volunteer recruitment and management with Team Leaders and the Deputy CEO.
  • Lead on Quality Assurance for volunteering at Wirral Change according to the UK quality standard for good practice in volunteer management.

Other Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provide statistical information regarding volunteers.
  • Uphold the aims, principles and policies of Wirral Change.
  • Participate fully in Wirral Change's meetings, internal planning events etc., as agreed with line manager.
  • Abide by health and safety guidelines and share responsibility for own safety and that of colleagues.
  • Carry out other appropriate tasks requested by line manager, to ensure the effective delivery and development of the service.
  • Promoting the organization profile, ethos and practice.


The post holder may be required to undertake any other duties that fall within the nature of the role and responsibilities of the post as detailed above.

The Volunteer Co-ordinator is expected to work within the ethos of Wirral Change and have high standards of practice. The need to respect confidentiality is paramount, as is a mature and flexible approach to the work. The post holder will be required to take part in volunteer events.

ESSENTIAL CRITERIA SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, EXPERIENCE
1: Understanding of and commitment to the aims and principles of Wirral Change and its equal opportunities policies.

2: Good Standard of education - level 3 or above.

3: Experience of recruiting and coordinating volunteers.

4: Knowledge of current trends and practices related to volunteer recruitment and retention.

5: Knowledge and awareness of diversity and inclusion and how this relates to volunteering opportunities.

6: Proficient in the use of IT, in particular MS Teams, and Office with ability to use IT in the p
