Do you want to work in a service where we diagnose lung cancer early and save people's lives?

An exciting opportunity has arisen to work as part of the expanded Staffordshire Targeted Lung Health Check programme.

This award-winning programme delivers lung cancer screening to people aged between 55 and 74 years old, who have ever smoked in their lifetimes, from virtual and face to face clinics in the community.

This post will be mainly based in the Bridge Centre, Birches Head, Stoke on Trent with the view to moving to a number of face to face clinics around Staffordshire

Training and induction will be completed at the Bridge Centre but locations around Staffordshire are feasible as the programme expands with some rotational requirement at County Hospital so ability to drive is essential

Travel payments will be made for any travel completed above home to base mileage.

  • Direct, inform and liaise with patients, relatives, members of the Targeted Lung Health Team and members of the general public.
  • Deal directly with queries from patients, other health care professionals and visitors and refer to appropriate TLHC member.
  • Update computer information systems ensuring accurate patient information, making/amending appointments and enter appropriate dataset entry and changes into TLHC databases as appropriate.
  • Independently input audit data in a timely, efficient manner using agreed databases.
  • Independently assess smoking cessation requirements for patients in the TLHC, OPA, and follow up through face to face and telephone consultations as indicated.
  • Independently perform Spirometry following recognised training to support diagnosis and ongoing referrals as appropriate to TLHC pathway, under guidance of Screening Nurse Specialists.
  • Ensure onward referral to other relevant care providers i.e. smoking cessation, dietetics and any other service with appropriate referrals.
  • To be responsible for the regular ordering of equipment, consumables and education material and liaise with relevant sources to maintain adequate stock.
  • The post holder is expected to participate in any developments in computerised administration systems by contributing to the implementation and evaluation process.
  • To be responsible for addressing and problem solving queries direct from patients and relatives regarding the targeted lung health check programme pathway.

Working as part of a multi-disciplinary team within parameters of the nursing associate role, reporting back to the Registered Nurse on a regular basis, using a range of clinical, non-clinical and clerical support tasks.

  • To act as a resource to provide highquality information and knowledge to patients, their families where necessary and other healthcare professionals.
  • Support the provision of helpline services run from the hub by resolving queries referred by them to the screening centre
  • To provide advice, information and support for those making direct contact with the screening centre
  • Support the development of the care pathways
