Accounts Assistant

Reporting to:
Head of Accounts

The role will assist the Head of Accounts in ensuring the effective operation of the accounts process.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Ensure delegated financial transactions are dealt with appropriately and within the required timescales
  • Ensure all bills have been calculated correctly prior to processing within the system.
  • Ensure all payments (CHAPS, BACS, Cheques and Cash) have funds in the appropriate account prior to processing within the system.
  • Liaise with departments regarding the payment of disbursements, bills, bad debts etc.
  • Control Petty Cash expenditure including travel expenses
  • Assist the Head of Accounts with the administration of Credit Control.
  • Monitoring outstanding cheques.
  • Contribute to the smooth running of the department and the firm by supporting and training other departmental staff in their work, and optimising team output.
  • Maintain an awareness of changes in legislation, practice and procedure and seek to share the knowledge with colleagues.
  • Liaise with departmental staff to ensure workload and the balance of priorities, can be maintained within the team, thereby maximising output.
  • Control general nominal ledger work and reports, during Head of Accounts absence.
  • Administer Legal Aid payments and returns, during Head of Accounts absence.
  • Calculate Bank interest as requested by Fee Earners, and process any payments, during Head of Accounts absence.

Skills:
Experience in Accounts preferably in a Legal Practice.
Experience of Financial Management systems.
Proven interpersonal skills
General organisational and planning skills
Good written and oral communication skills.
General knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel.
