This role is for 30 hours (4 days) per week.


About NUM:


Job Purpose:


  • Risk assessing and helping members keep safe.
  • Supporting members to access resources in keeping with their rights and entitlements.
  • Supporting members to access (mental) health and other services they require.
  • Monitoring and keeping members informed of case progress.
  • Providing support through the criminal justice system if necessary.
  • Raising awareness about NUM services, networking with other practitioner groups and building meaningful multi agency relationships. Connecting with local service providers and community based services to imbed antiviolence, migrant rights and racial justice within services.

Person Specification
Essential

  • Demonstrable experience as a case worker in the field of victim support
  • Proven ability to work with multiagency partners as a strong but sensitive advocate based on the needs and wishes of the people you support
  • Demonstrable experience in risk assessing the needs of victims/survivors of a crime
  • A sound level of knowledge and understanding of safeguarding, both in theory and in practice
  • Experience of engaging with individuals who have experienced traumatic events
  • Experience with computer systems and case management systems with the ability to efficiently work with multiple platforms, managing data and conforming to legal regulations such as the Data Protection Act and GDPR
  • Experience of supporting people with protected characteristics, or an in depth understanding of the stigma, barriers and difficulties experienced by these populations
  • A good level of experience or qualifications in criminal justice, such as an ISVA or IDVA qualification
Desirable

  • Willingness to and/or experience in delivering advice, information, emotional and practical support and advocacy in partnership with health, wellbeing and criminal justice outcomes
  • The ability to understand local, regional and national policy and evidence based research in relation to community safety, health and social inclusion
  • Experience of multi agency working with services of conflicting demands
  • Knowledge and understanding of The Code of Practice for Victims of Crime
  • Proficient language skills in one or more (but not limited to) Portuguese/ Brazilian, Spanish, Romanian, Mandarin, Thai. Any language skills will be considered for this role.

Roles and Responsibilities:


  • Members
  • Contact all Scotlandbased members referred to the service within 24 hours if possible and subsequently as necessary until other support is identified or at the member's request.
  • Undertake safeguarding, risk assessment and support needs analysis with members.
  • Develop individual service plans to address risks/support needs of members.
  • Help members to access services to which they are entitled, e.g. through setting up fasttrack referral systems to sexual health followup services, making referrals to mental health services and local counselling organisations, assisting with the arrangement of child care and return to work, arranging selfdefence training.
  • Provide facetoface, telephone and digital support (nontherapeutic) to members and their supporters where appropriate.
  • Explain criminal, legal and if relevant, civil remedies and housing options to members.
  • Provide information and support in relation to Criminal Injuries Compensation.
  • With member's consent and where relevant, keep other agencies informed about important changes in member's situation.
  • Consider child protection issues when engaging with members assaulted in a domestic setting and follow child protection policies.
  • If a member reports to the Police
  • Support members through the criminal legal system, explaining the procedures and their role and rights within the system.
  • Subject to local arrangements and the views of the member, support the member in the witness statement and during the trial phase in conjunction with the Witness Service.
  • Liaise with the police and The Crown Office and Procurator Fiscal Service (COPFS) on behalf of the member, with the member's consent and adhering to confidentiality policy in relation to release of information. If local protocols can be agreed, keep the victim informed about case progress on behalf of the police in line with the requirements of the Scottish Victims Code.
  • Participate in case conferences with the police, COPFS and prosecuting barrister.
  • Understand barriers to reporting and the need for special measures.

  • Maintain and monitor records of all cases and support the NUM platform, data collection and the development of case studies for knowledge sharing.
  • Follow procedures and protocols with other services so that the safety of the member is kept central to any process.
  • Note and feed back to other agencies about consistent difficulties members are having accessing their service.
