JOB DESCRIPTION - Maintenance Operative
REPORTING TO:
Facilities Manager
SALARY:
£11.00 per hour
HOURS:
Up to 40 Hours per week

St Andrews College
The college has been based in central Cambridge for over 40 years, it is a college with teaching buildings as well as Halls of Residences.
General Purpose
To provide maintenance support to ensure the efficient operation of the college.
Key Responsibilities
The primary responsibility of this position is to undertake varied day-to-day maintenance tasks, installations and small projects.
This includes, but is not limited to:
Carpentry:
to include replacement/repair of door and window fittings, repair of furniture, fitting locks, erection of shelves, cupboards and displays.
Brick/Groundwork:
to include the repair of masonry, concrete slabs, plastering and stud walls. Erecting new fencing, laying new paving, or paving repairs, patch tarmac repairs.
Roofing:
repairs to flat roofing, felting.
Flooring:
laying of laminate floorings, tiles, and other floor coverings.
Plumbing:
to include repair and replacement of taps, sinks, and finishes as required. The clearance of blockages in gutters, down pipes and drains.
Other
Weekly audits including but not limited to the following: fire alarms, water temperatures, inspecting premises and recording on forms;
Be willing to undertake regular training and development activities including Educare and other online courses and other items including tool-box-talks and face-to-face training.
Any other tasks deemed suitable by the Facilities Manager.
To work in a manner ensuring the safety of oneself and those around them, and following any risk assessments and policies outlined by the School.
PERSON SPECIFICATION
Qualifications
Full UK driving licence
PASMA or safe use of ladders
Experience
Has worked in construction related environments
Has worked in educational surroundings
Knowledge and good understanding of HSE guidelines.
Skills/attributes
Work effectively in teams
Is self-motivated and uses initiative
Can be flexible and work to changing priorities and deadlines
Painting experience and skills.
Good problem-solving skills.
Working Hours: 40 hours per week
Working times will be agreed with the Facilities Manager and will be within the range of 06:30 - 18:30.
