More information:
The Guild Church of St Katharine Cree (SKC) is a church for all workers in the heart of the City of London.
We also play our part as a significant historic civic church in the life of the City of London, as a venue for concerts and meetings, and as a place for tourists and groups to visit.
We need a new team member to join us to help Saturdays run smoothly, and to ensure the safety and security of the site and everyone using it.
Our busiest days are Saturdays when, during term-time, we run English classes and conversation groups, a monthly service in Spanish, have regular hires in the Hall, are starting a community gardening group, and are exploring the possibility of family activities in the church.
These activities are run by a team of volunteers and staff, coordinated by our Mission and Outreach Coordinator and overseen by the Priest-in-Charge.
This role could work alongside other jobs during the week, or might be a good fit if you are a student or recently retired for example.
Key terms:
- 7.5 hours per week at the London Living Wage £13.15ph (equivalent to £25,642pa).
- The normal hours of work will be 9am to 5pm on Saturdays.
- We are looking to recruit someone who can also work additional hours (with notice) for
these each month. There is no guarantee of additional hours but having a verger available will
allow us to book more of these events.
- Holidays will need to be taken outside of our ESOL terms (which approximately follow
- We would welcome it if you were able to attend (paid) our monthly allstaff meeting on the first Tuesday morning of each month but this is not essential if you have other commitments.
Saturday Verger Role:
Being a friendly and approachable front-of-house 'face' of St Katharine Cree to the public and our community on Saturdays, overseeing the security of the site and those using it, and helping set up and pack down furniture from activities such as our regular services.
Ensuring the safety and cleanliness of the site during and after different activities, including helping clearing up, taking on light cleaning duties and maintaining the kitchen for example by helping with washing up and emptying bins.
Acting as First Aider and a first point of contact for queries or concerns about the site (such as operating the heating or lighting systems).
