Relief Support Assistant (Term time) as and when required to cover staff absence and holidays.This position is perfect for parents seeking work within school/nursery hours.
The sessions we run are parent & toddlers session, Tuesday and Thursday 09:00/09:30-12:00 and creche sessions per week, Wednesday and Friday 09:00/09:30-12:00.
- To contribute a high standard of physical, emotional, and social care for children at playgroup.
- To safeguard the wellbeing of all children within our care.
- To support parents and provide a welcoming atmosphere.
The play assistant should:
- Welcome all children/parents/carers on arrival at any playgroup session.
- Develop a stable, friendly, and trusting relationship with the children.
- In conjunction with the play leader plan a programme which supports and guides children's allround learning and development.
- Plan and organise sessions in collaboration with the Play Leader.
- Ensure all aspects of planning promote equal opportunities and antidiscriminatory practice.
- Review and evaluate all aspects of the curriculum.
- Set up and clear away the equipment.
- Make snack, set tables and ensure that all children wash their hands.
- Recording accidents in the accident book.
- Ensure child is collected by someone known to the setting.
- To respect the confidentiality of information received.
- Developing and Support activities to suit the child's stage of development.
- To ensure the provision of a high quality environment to meet the needs of individual children.
- Take children to the toilet when attending crèche.
- To be aware of all policies and procedures.
The play assistant should:
- Ensure new parents/carers and their children are introduced to others.
- Ensure all parents/carers new to the playgroup session feel welcome and understand the session structure.
- Welcome new parents/carers and encourage them to stay with their children until they have settled at crèche.
- Encourage parents/carers to become involved in the play activities and play experiences.
- Work in partnership with parents / carers concerning their child; involve them in record keeping, and when seeking information about their child's progress.
- Work with other Playgroup staff to develop play activity plans.
The play assistant should:
- Take a register of children at the beginning of each session.
- Be responsible for the safety of the children during the play session and ensure that adequate precautions are taken to safe guard children and minimise risks.
- Maintain a standard of tidiness and cleanliness in the interest of hygiene.
- Report breakages and unsafe equipment to the committee.
- Ensure that no physical punishment, such as smacking is allowed in the playroom.
- To be flexible within working practices of the setting.
- Be prepared to help where needed, including to undertake certain domestic jobs within the setting, e.g. preparation of snack meals, cleansing of equipment etc.
- Ensure that any accident to adults or children is recorded in the accident book.
- Ensure that every child is collected by their parent or someone authorised by their parent following crèche sessions.
- Ensure a fire drill is practised termly and fire doors are kept clear of obstructions.
