University Hospitals Birmingham NHS Trust has a vacancy for qualified Para-Professional, with specialist library or NHS experience, for the role of Library Assistant at Good Hope Hospital Library.


Good Hope Hospital is based in Sutton Coldfield and provides a range of outpatient, inpatient and emergency services to its local community.

Good Hope Hospital Library is located within the Education Centre.


Main duties, tasks & skills required:

As the "front of house" contact you need to be versatile and respond to a range of enquiries, promoting library services and referring to appropriate library staff.

The ability to be flexible and adaptable in dealing with both library users and a range of library resources is also a requirement of the post.


You will be required to work closely with other team members in providing an efficient enquiry and document supply service, maintaining the book and journal collection on a daily basis and providing assistance to library users.

Being a team player is important, together with good interpersonal skills. You will need to be adept at prioritising tasks when the library is busy.

You will need to be highly motivated and able to work on your own initiative. Good literacy and numeracy skills are also essential, as well as experience using Microsoft Office packages and the internet.

You will at least 5 GCSE at C grade or above, and have or be working towards a para-professional qualification.

This is a varied and exciting role and is ideal for anyone passionate about developing a career in libraries.

Essential:

Evidence of Level 2 on both Maths &
English qualifications ( CSE Grade 1/ GCSE

Skills / O Level grade A-C / Level 2

National Certificate / Level 2 National

Diploma / Level 2 ESOL )

and care staff within a hospital setting
