Southport and Ormskirk Hospital NHS Trust has a fantastic opportunity for an individual who has aspirations to work in our echocardiography team.
This post is an exciting opportunity to learn new skills and become part of a growing team.You will be based mainly at Southport Hospital, but could be required to work at Ormskirk Hospital if necessary.
Performing comprehensive and high-quality echocardiograms, ensuring that the British Society of Echocardiography guidelines are maintained, up to date and relevant to current clinical and technical practice.
You will work alongside a team of Cardiac Physiologists performing and reporting Echo's, Dyssynchrony Echo's, and assisting in TOE's and Bubble Echoes.
You should also have experience to perform and report ETT"s, Ambulatory Tape Monitors, BP monitors, ECGs and basic Respiratory Function Tests (experience in Full Respiratory Studies would be an advantage).
You will also be involved in the supervision and training of physiologists, doctors and nurses and must be committed to continually improving your professional skills.

Main duties & responsibilities
1.1
Perform echocardiography at an independent practitioner level (adult and paediatric) producing an accurate and comprehensive report for each study with responsibility for your own caseload.
1.2Identify and advise when trans-thoracic echo is insufficient to answer the clinical question and proactively suggest and arrange alternative/ additional investigations.
1.3Review studies by other health care professions and provide highly specialist advice on interpretation and reporting including where there is a difference of opinion.
1.4Provide clinical support, advice, specialist knowledge and training to junior technicians, doctors and nursing staff in echocardiography and other areas of clinical physiology, throughout the health economy.
1.5Undertake, with the cardiologist trans-oesophageal echocardiograms and participate in emergency echo support for theatre, A&E, ITU and CCU

Maintain competency in performing and reporting a range of specialist complex procedures in the area of clinical physiology e.g. Exercise tolerance testing, ambulatory recordings and TILT testing

To supervise the day to day work of junior staff, ensuring that any issues or problems e.g. absence, conduct or capability are reported to the Directorate Manager

To review, maintain and develop agreed standards of documentation in accordance with BSE guidelines and department minimum standards
1.9
To assist in setting protocols and standards of care for echo patients within the department
1.10
Ensure waiting times are minimised and that any delays or shortfalls in service are promptly reported and assist in taking remedial action
1.11
Ensure that all equipment and stock levels are properly maintained
1.12
In conjunction with the Directorate Manager and/ or Matron, deliver service improvements, which ensures Best Care Practice is implemented within the department.
1.13Ensure the effective and efficient use of resources
1.14
Promote cleanliness within the environment and ensure full compliance with Trust's procedures for prevention of cross infection.
1.15
Participate in routine HEAT inspections and implementing recommendations from the action plan with clinical and non-clinical services as necessary to ensure identified defects are rectified.
1.16Participate in the investigation of complaints ensuring a thorough, timely and accurate report is produced and agreed actions are implemented.
1.17Assist in the development of policies and protocols relevant to the speciality.
1.18
Ensure compliance with all statutory, professional and organisational requirements as delegated.
1.19
Inform Directorate Manager and/ or Matron if acceptable levels of care and patient safety cannot be sustained.
1.20
Act on concerns raised by team members or service users taking appropriate action according to Trust Policies and Guidelines.
