To manage all admissions for cytotoxic chemotherapy through the Eden Day Unit and Eden ward

To provide comprehensive organisational and administrative support to the

Eden Day Unit and the chemotherapy service.

To ensure the smooth day to day operational management of the chemotherapy

admission department

To plan strategically the capacity of the chemotherapy admissions list and the

capacity of the nurse led pre - assessment clinic in conjunction with the Lead

Chemotherapy Nurse

To be responsible for scheduling chemotherapy lists to fully utilise resources to

maintain financial balance.

  • To be responsible for contacting patients to inform them of a date for
chemotherapy treatment. The post holder must be prepared to contact patients

/ consultants and contentious issues such as beds not available or breach

issues.

The post holder will manage all chemotherapy admissions for all consultants

working to clearly defined policies, commenting on and implementing change to

policies in own area e.g. Chemotherapy referral procedure, secretarial and

administrative procedures.

  • To plan strategically the capacity of the chemotherapy admissions list and the
capacity of the nurse led pre - assessment clinic in conjunction with the Lead

Chemotherapy Nurse.

  • To be responsible for organising chemotherapy dates for patients taking into
account resources available.

  • To ensure chemotherapy for all patients is prescribed and ordered from
pharmacy prior to the patient's appointment.

  • To be responsible for ensuring all central venous access devices are organised
prior to patient's admission for chemotherapy.

  • To be responsible for scheduling chemotherapy lists to fully utilise resources to
maintain financial balance.

  • To be responsible for contacting patients to inform them of a date for
chemotherapy treatment. The post holder must be prepared to contact patients

/ consultants and contentious issues such as beds not available or breach

issues.

  • Be responsible for correspondence with patients, telephone and face to face
enquires from patients and relatives. Analyse and resolve queries, using tact

and diplomacy.

  • Be responsible for providing excellent communication and information for
patients coming to hospital to start chemotherapy.

  • Responsible for generating letters to patients to explain details of investigations
needed prior to starting chemotherapy.

  • Communicate with the ward and unit manager to ensure patients are admitted in
a timely manner and to the correct area.

February 201- Be responsible for arranging pre-assessment appointments for patients and

communicate with the Chemotherapy team regarding any changes to patient's

needs or admission dates.

  • To communicate with other hospital staff, other NHS trusts and independent
sectors relating to chemotherapy enquiries.

  • To initiate in accordance with clinical pathways, all required clinical
investigations.

  • The post holder must be fully conversant and competent in the use of the
patient administration system.

  • Be responsible for maintaining an up to date database detailing progress of
chemotherapy admissions.

  • To be responsible for all relevant patient information, clinical and nonclinical to
be recorded correctly on to the patient centre system and to investigate when

not evident.
