Special Educational Needs Teaching Assistant (SEND TA) - Secondary Alternative Provision/SEMH School

We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate SEND Teaching Assistant to join our team to work at a reputable Secondary Alternative Provision/SEMH (Social, Emotional, and Mental Health) School.

As a SEND TA, you will play a vital role in supporting students who require additional assistance to thrive academically, emotionally, and socially.


Responsibilities:


  • Work closely with classroom teachers to implement tailored learning strategies and support plans for students with with SEMH challenges.
  • Provide oneonone or small group support to students during lessons, ensuring their engagement and understanding of the curriculum.
  • Foster a nurturing and inclusive classroom environment, promoting positive behaviour and emotional wellbeing among students.
  • Collaborate with the schools Senior Leadership Team and other professionals to create individualized education plans (IEPs) and monitor progress.
  • Promote effective communication and build strong relationships with students, their families, and external agencies involved in their support network.

Requirements:


  • Previous experience working as a Teaching Assistant, preferably in a similar SEND or SEMH setting.
  • A genuine passion for supporting students with special educational needs, demonstrating empathy, patience, and a nurturing approach.
  • Knowledge and understanding of a range of SEND conditions, including SEMH challenges.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build positive relationships with students, staff, and external stakeholders.
  • Flexibility and adaptability to work effectively in a dynamic educational environment.
  • Relevant qualifications in teaching assistance or education (e.g., CACHE Level 2/3 Teaching Assistant qualification or equivalent) are desirable but not essential, as we can provide a FREE 2Day Introduction to Teaching Assistant Role course.
