The role of clinical educator is designed to support and mentor newly registered nursing staff throughout LPFT and enable them to develop their nursing skills by working alongside them to deliver bespoke learning opportunities.


Clinical educators work alongside new registrants to support their integration into their role and provide both practical and pastoral support to all of our learners.

This post will work as part of the wider practice education team and will have support from colleagues to deliver training and ecuation to all of our newly registered nurses, apprentices and students.


The main duties of the clinical educator are:

To provide a visible, accessible and approachable professional presence across LPFT sites to ensure our IENs, NQNs, apprentices and students can receive onsite training, coaching, mentoring and support during the first few months of their employment.

To work closely with ward/team managers and clinical leads to identify induction and training gaps.

To provide personalised training during the supernumery period (minimum of first 4 weeks in ward environment).

This will include all clinical elements and day to day practices that IENs, NQNs, apprentices and students will be required to do when activing independently.


To be 'the go to person' for all IENs, NQNs, apprentices and students, in relation to clinical aspects of their work during the first few weeks of ward work.

To maintain appropriate records on progress of skills and knowledge of the IENs, NQNs, apprentices and students

To develop highly effective communication networks with key stakeholders (Heads of Nursing, Ward Managers, Practice Supervisors and Assessors, University and OSCE Centre Staff and other key stakeholders involved in the successful recruitment and onboarding of IENs, NQNs, apprentices and students


To lead on the specific delivery of training plans for IENs, NQNs, apprentices and students, dovetailing into other requirements such as preceptorship, ensuring all relevant statutory and regulatory requirements are met.

To act as a practice assessor where required.

To provide comprehensive feedback and constructive criticism to ensure highest standards are practice are reached.


Develop new and innovative practice learning opportunities in collaboration with LPFT clinical and non-clinical areas as appropriate, establishing good working relationships, networking, liaison with internal and external staff and good practice sharing opportunities.

To engage in social activities as required which may take place outside of working hours. Such activities will be planned ahead.

To provide a supportive pastoral service to IENs, NQNs, apprentices and students
