Job description:


The role and our team


We are looking for a communications professional, with good organisational and influencing skills, to join our Strategic Communications team, reporting to a Senior Communications Planner.


You will have the opportunity to work on strategic planning of communications with the full communications team across the whole of BEIS' amazing policy portfolio, covering crucial government priorities like responding to rising energy costs, protecting business and workers, and showcasing the top UK science and innovation.

You'll be a key member of the team that:

  • Works with seniors and communication teams across BEIS to help identify the highest priority activities in the medium and long-term.
  • Brings together colleagues from appropriate policy teams and from within the communications directorate from media, digital, external affairs and internal to develop creative and effective communication plans on high priority activities.
  • Project manage the delivery and execution of all communications outputs from highpriority communication plans, ensuring all external and internal stakeholders are kept uptodate and are happy with progress.

Key responsibilities
You will work with colleagues in the planning team to

  • Support project leaders in Strategic Communications and Media team to identify and understand our highest priority communications. Over the last year, this might have included April's Energy Security Strategy and the following Energy Bills Support Scheme, COP27, new support for workers including the 'Tipping Bill' and the 'Neonatal Care Bill', securing our status as a science superpower through investments like £273 million in the Aerospace industry and £743 million into technologies of tomorrow, the National Security and Investment Act and BEIS' ongoing role supporting Ukraine after Russia's illegal invasion in May.
  • Work with the Senior Communication Planner and project leaders to define clear roles and responsibilities for each high priority moment.
  • Influence and work with colleagues across the whole communications team to help develop creative communication ideas for high priority moments that are both ambitious and considerate to wider BEIS and HMG plans and priorities.
  • Lead on the coordination of virtual teams in order to develop highquality communication plans for our Secretary of State and Junior Ministers, ensuring feedback is incorporated in a timely and effective manner.
  • Use the communication plan to develop a delivery plan and associated products with clear milestones and clearance deadlines, ensuring clarity and coordination across the full communications team.
  • Provide regular updates to the Senior Communications Planner, escalating any issues early so they can be proactively addressed.
  • Support the Insight and Evaluation team and other communication colleagues to produce project evaluations, assessing the impact, outputs and project management of the high priority moment, ensuring
