Description

The Senior Systems Officer supports the delivery of an exemplar Occupational Health and Wellbeing service to employees of University Hospitals Plymouth NHS Trust and of external businesses through expertise in information management systems and processes.

As a key member of the Systems Team and the OH Department, the post holder enables and supports the effective use of data, information, knowledge and technology to improve and inform a portfolio of projects, services and initiatives.

This includes responsibility for a diverse range of activities to support the delivery of project / programme objectives.


The post holder is the lead systems officer for the management of major systems projects and work streams that are critical to business continuity for the OH Department and transformational service delivery.

As the systems improvement specialist, the Senior Systems Officer provides updates and complex information to senior managers.


Preference will be given to internal Trust staff, as well as 'Priority' and 'At Risk' status including NHS At Risk staff throughout Devon who are able to display recent relevant experience as dictated by the Person Specification.

  • Lead responsibility for the configuration, development and maintenance of the OH electronic data management systems.
  • Provision of business statistical reporting support to the Business & Performance Manager.
  • Project management and delivery of key systems projects, to ensure business continuity and to improve benefits for stakeholders.
  • Represent the Systems Team/OH Department at relevant client/stakeholder meetings and service reviews.
  • Formulate, monitor and maintain data quality standards.
  • Ensure robust links between department improvement initiatives and initiatives within the Trust, bringing together teams and working across boundaries both professional and departmental, to enable whole system improvements.


Engage and work collaboratively with OH clinical professionals and support staff, to ensure successful systems project delivery on schedule and ongoing effective use of systems improvements by all stakeholders.

Post project evaluation of system modification effectiveness on operational processes planning and client / service-user interface with the service.


Provide professional advice and guidance to stakeholders, managers and service users, working with them in taking action as appropriate, to ensure a consistent approach in using OH systems and accuracy of data outputs.

In conjunction with the Business & Performance Manager develop and produce KPI data to support quarterly performance reports and ensure that they are produced in line with contract requirements and deadlines, prioritising appropriately.

Develop and implement efficient processes, such as project data collection systems, that will provide accurate and timely data.

Carry out timely and accurate information analysis and reporting on agreed areas of portfolio and present findings in an agreed manner.


Participate in relevant internal and external working groups/projects, to provide information and analytical advice, and to maintain data collection systems for its effective use by the team.


Participate in Systems Team reviews of various strands of systems work and indicator data, in order to constantly monitor performance, be responsive to needs and enhance decision-making as appropriate.


Create detailed quality report queries from eOPAS, to extract data that supports reporting on audit performance, service utilisation, referral patterns and waiting times.

Maintain and update the content of the OH portal.


Act as a point of contact for teams, dealing and responding effectively with complex queries from stakeholders and passing on relevant information to appropriate team members sensitively and autonomously.
