ABOUT THE ROLE


We are looking for an individual with catering and kitchen co-ordinating experience to help us to serve our local community.

This will include providing healthy, nutritious food to children, young people and the wider community.

This role will include a mix of cooking meals for delivery and delivery of food-related programmes and activities, including community cafes and activiies.

We are looking for someone who is dynamic, creative, resilient and is excited about empowering local people.

We are also hoping for someone who has a good sense of humour and is team-oriented to add to our thriving team and exciting period of growth in our organisation.


The Community Cook and Food Co-ordinator will work closely with the wellbeing team and will be engaging with a range of groups within the centre and with partners who deliver food programmes.

They will enable the organisation to make a bigger impact in the community and be willing to work alongside staff and volunteers to achieve the aims.


They must have the skills and knowledge to keep their kitchen organised, clean and have a working knowledge of most recent cooksafe and environmental procedures of an operational kitchen.


HOURS OF WORK:

ABOUT THE ROLE

PLANNING AND DELIVERY

  • Effectively manage your own time in cooking, managing the kitchen and food supplies as well as associated paperwork
  • Plan and deliver easily prepared nutritious meals for delivery to vulnerable, isolated and disadvantaged individuals in the local community;
  • Plan and prepare snacks for sessions delivered during activities at MADE4U centre and wider in the community;
  • Assist in planning and delivery of highquality cooking teaching and engagement sessions as part of parent engagement and children / young people engagement sessions;
  • Assist in training and supporting young people and families to achieve qualifications e.g. Food Hygiene, etc where it is related to kitchen activities;
  • Collaborate with wider MADE4U colleagues to support the development and implementation of a delivery plan and targets;
  • Proactively support with the creative redistribution of surplus food; frozen, ambient and other;
  • Improve and coordinate systems around recording, labelling of food, cooksafe, etc inline with guidance;
  • Support MADE4U in adhering to food hygiene, COSHH, hotholding and other food standard laws and guidelines with our provisions;
  • Contribute to the development of regular stock rotation, purchasing and upgrades to the kitchen space;
  • Maintain levels of resources and supplies in the kitchen;
  • Support the protection of children, young people and families by following MADE4U's Safeguarding policy and procedures at all times;

MONITORING AND EVALUATION

  • Participate in regular evaluation reviews of programme delivery ensuring the continuous improvement of our services for our children, young people, families and other stakeholders;

PARTNERSHIP WORKING

  • Maintain relationships with local partners, schools & networks reaching all children, young people and families who need us most;

FINANCE, FUNDING AND FUNDRAISING

  • Support the Wellbeing Development Worker, and Project Manager in setting annual food programme budgets

PERSON SPECIFICATION

Skills, Knowledge and Experience

Essential

  • Previous experience (minimum 3 years) of a kitchen environment, cooking and adhering to guidelines.
  • Must have minimum HNC Qualification in hospitality or equivalent / experience
  • Experience of operating within a professional catering environment, including recording temperatures, taking appropriate hygiene action and reporting issues to senior management
  • Experience of conducting and working with Risk Assessments.
  • Experience of multitasking, working calmly under pressure and managing workload.
  • Experience of explaining and supporting other in a cooking / kitchen environment
  • Ability to work at a quick pace
  • Understanding of food insecurity and poverty and how this impacts children's development.
  • Experience of building positive relationships with colleagues, children, young people, families and professionals.
  • Experience of working in a valuesbased culture and leading with integrity, compassion and dignity.
  • Adaptable and flexible to suit the needs of the organisation.

Desirable


Experience of working directly with children, young people and families using food and cooking as an engagement tool in schools and community settings.
