Recovery Officer


I am working with a Public Sector Organisation based in Solihull Metropolitan Borough Council who are looking for experienced Recovery Officer for 3 Months.

The role is full time, to start ASAP and paying £24 Umbrella per Hour. The role is in scope of IR35.


Purpose of the Role:


Adopting a holistic view in relation to monies owed to the Council, the Income Recovery Officer deals with the effective recovery of any debts outstanding to the authority including Council Tax, Non-Domestic Rates, Business Improvement District (BID), Housing Benefit Overpayments and Sundry Debts in order to maximise income to the Council.


Role Responsibilities:

  • Deal with all recovery correspondence from reminder stage onwards
  • To progress Council Tax and Non Domestic Rate debt recovery by making a decision on the appropriate course of action in relation to the debt taking into account the individual circumstances of the customer
  • To progress Housing Benefit Overpayments and Sundry Income debt recovery by making a decision on the appropriate course of action in relation to the debt taking into account the individual circumstances of the customer
  • Process and monitor arrangements, attachments to benefits and attachments to earnings taking the appropriate action where necessary

Accountability:

  • To assist in the maintenance of a quality service to the public for council tax, maintaining up to date and accurate council tax records, identifying necessary changes to accounts, calculating revised charges and updating computer records as necessary
  • To have a working knowledge of council tax information available and seeking advice and guidance when required.
  • To ensure all necessary action is taken to assess council tax allowances, exemptions, discounts, and other relief in accordance, with procedures and legislation.

Experience and Knowledge:

  • Knowledge of working in Local Taxation in a debt collection environment.
  • Local Taxation and/or a Debtors Computer system.
  • Use of Northgate system

Experience and Qualification:

  • 4 GCSEs grades A-C / 49 (including Maths and English) (or equivalent
  • The ability to demonstrate an equivalent level of numeracy and literacy skills
