The post holder will sit within the second line of defence (2LoD) risk function and have the opportunity to shape the risk management approach at M&G Plc on Sustainability & ESG (Environment, Social and Governance) Risk.

This role covers a range of sustainabilitytopics including climate change, net zero, governance, ESG regulation and corporate reporting across the asset owner, asset manager and corporate, providing an excellent opportunity for the role holder to upskill on this fast moving and important topic.

Working within the Organisational Risk team, the ESG Risk and Controls Oversight Manager will work alongside the ESG and Climate Risk Oversight Manager, and Reputational Risk team to oversee the framework for the management of ESG (Environment, Social and Governance)Risk including supporting the 1LoD in the assessment of RCSA and design and development of key risk and controls to identify, assess and manage a range of ESG Risk associated with the implementation of the business strategy.

They will help to evaluate the risk associated with adopting and promoting a range of ESG approaches and help to understand the expectation of key stakeholder groups in this regard working closely with the Reputational Risk team.

With an appreciation the regulatoryrequirements of ESG and how to evidence consideration of oversight and assurance activity to meet the requirements of an effective 3LoD.

The postholder will also design how risk reports on ESG Risk to a range of stakeholders including Exec, Risk Committeesand in Annual Reporting and Disclosures.

This specialist role sits in the Organisational Risk Team, to tackle a range of future facing risks arising from the evolution of the world into a more environmentally, ethically and digitally aware economy.

In addition, to creating a strategic approach tomanaging ESG risk across the business, the post holder will also support the first line function in managing incident response associated with ESG related issues e.g.

public disclosures or activist activity that could lead to Reputational damage, supportingthe Head of Reputational Risk as required to react appropriately to incidents arising.

As a specialist this role will play an important role in shaping the design of a robust education and behaviour change programme to help increase capacity and embed understanding of ESG Risk Management policy requirements, with a focus on assessing the controls.

Empowering employees to make risk assessments for all decisions and actions they take on behalf of the business.


Key accountabilities for this role:


  • Manage & oversee the implementation and ongoing development of the framework for the identification, management and reporting on ESG risk across M&G Plc.
  • Lead the 2nd line support to
  • 1LoD in their design of key risks & controls associated with ESG Risk.
  • Lead the embedding of the framework across the business through effective policy and education programmes.
  • Build positive relationships across the business to challenge and support colleagues in assessing and managing ESG Risk.
  • Be accountable for the risk management activity associated with the Climate Risk Plan.
  • Lead on thematic reviews and deep dives on areas that could impact negatively on the risk profile of M&G plc.
  • Provide specialist risk opinions on ESG Risk.
  • Support in incident response associated with ESG events and capture key learning to build resilience for the future
  • Manage external specialist resource used to support the delivery of the framework
  • Support the Director of Organisational Risk & Resilience in reporting on ESG risk to include in a variety of formats dashboards, reports and presentations
  • Contribute as required to industry forums and project working groups on key areas of risk such E.g. Climate Risk, Diversity & Inclusion

Key knowledge, skills and experience:


Essential:


  • At least 5 years working in a Risk & Controls environment
  • Significant experience of Risk Management Framework & Policy Management
  • Proven track record in designing effective risk management processes
  • Practical understanding of ESG risk and how it manifests
  • Ability to consult with a variety of key stakeholder groups
  • Proven experience of working in a complex multichannel/ multi location business
  • Significant Experience of working alongside compliance/ regulatory colleagues
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong working knowledge of MetricStream as a risk management tool

Desirable:


  • Proven track record of embedding effective and robust risk management frameworks.
  • Practical experience of managing ESG Risk and how it manifests across the Risk Taxonomy
  • Proven track record in managing and/or advising on ESG risk.
  • Understanding of how to assess the impact of ESG current and future business activities and how to develop effective scenario testing approaches
  • Understanding/awareness of ESG regulatory requirements
  • Working knowledge of the development of key risk indicators.
  • Significant experience of providing risk guidance and developing policy/position statements.
  • Understanding of the wider business, economic, regulatory and market environment in which M&G plc operates.
  • Experience of writing board/committee papers.
  • Relevant professional qualification in Risk Management
