Main purpose of the job.


Located within the Planning Department and reporting to the Planning & Projects Manager you will have responsibility for supporting operations in planning production activities in line with production demand and supply chain.


Responsible for working with the production management team to plan and schedule work following operational requirements and forecasts issued by the business.

Ensuring that operations are effectively scheduled to balance the workload through the site over the prescribed shift activity patterns and floor space.

Flagging any potential capacity risks so they can be mitigated by the department owners.

To support the production management team to help leverage greater efficiency and effectiveness in the operation.

To ensure that all orders are planned effectively to optimise production capacity. Liaise with all departments making sure work is scheduled in an efficient and timely manner.

Provide support to the production management team.

Maintaining a production schedule so that any Risks and deviations to plan are identified quickly to allow the production management team to take remedial action


Key duties and responsibilities.

Manufacturing Scheduling:


  • Schedule orders on production lines involving a variety of product mix and fluctuating requirements based on demand forecast, customer orders, current inventories and line capacity.
  • Create and maintain a visible master production plan from the information provided from the relevant production managers to meet sales forecasts and customer orders.
  • Convey plan to the relevant stakeholders and liaise closely with production (fabrication and assembly), engineering and supply chain.
  • Handle all enquiries related to production planner.
  • Ensuring the plan is live and accurate.

Evaluate Production Capacity:


  • Work with the production team to develop and maintain capacity planners and labour requirements to assist with coordinating general production operations regarding resource, efficiency and cycle times, to ensure targets are met
  • Assist and liaise with purchasing team as required to enable effective material resource planning (MRP).
  • Work with Sales team as part of the Sales and Operations planning process to understand appropriate future capacity requirements based on forecast demand

Communication Channels:


  • Serves as a liaison between production operations and other areas, such as sales, customer service, production, project management, shipping and receiving, and other departments regarding general operations, and questions and concerns, to ensure ontime delivery.
  • Host weekly planning meetings and take ownership for forward preparation of these meetings.
  • Reviews, adjusts, and updates a fluctuating and live schedule based on customer orders, production updates, material needs, and other areas as required; informs personnel of appropriate changes.

Analyse and Report Performance Metrics

  • Generate reports and commentary that will provide relevant, accurate and timely information to assist effective decision making, metrics and continuous improvement.

Essential criteria, experience and skills.

  • Excellent communicator. Clear and concise communication skills.
  • Knowledge of fundamental scheduling principles and practices.
  • Experience in production planning.
  • Adaptable and able to read and respond to changing environments.
  • Understanding of basic production, operational and supply chain principles and practices.
  • Analytical and able to understand a variety of data and develop appropriate reports.
  • Capable of interpreting and interrogating customer demand.
  • Innovative thinker.
  • Keen problem solver with ability to find solutions in a structured and efficient manner.
  • MS Excel and Office skills

Desirable criteria, experience and skills.

  • Previous experience with MRP is preferred.
