Firmware/Electronics Engineer.


The role of Electronic Engineer is of strategic importance, making a significant contribution in the design and development of showering products, as well as aiding fault finding and implementing solutions across the range of current products.

Both of whichare seen as paramount in helping the business achieve its growth targets over the next few years and deliver on it future products roadmap.

Main Duties/Responsibilities

  • To manage and participate in the electronic and electrical design of products, assemblies, or components within new and current product design projects.
  • Lead and participate in the design of electronic and electrical control systems within our products.
  • Work alongside external manufacturers and supply chain to manage component supply issues.
  • Project manage key technical projects.
  • Coordinate external electronics resource as required.
  • Work alongside approvals team to undertake EMC, LVD & RED testing work.
  • Mentor junior team members
  • Write relevant sections of Product Design Specifications (PDS).
  • Concept design, feasibility studies, component selection, circuit design, PCB layout and system integration for hardware in new and existing products, to meet the functional, safety, approval and cost requirements.
  • Write design specifications for hardware and firmware as required.
  • Lead and participate in creation of hardware design & drawing packs.
  • Lead and participate in creation of Product Test Specifications (PTS).
  • Work with and manage the workload of external electronics consultants as required.
  • Communicate ideas with drawings/sketches, and support with any technical calculations using engineering theory.
  • Organise subcontracting the manufacture of hardware prototypes.
  • Work with the test team and electronics technician to complete in house testing including test setup, test fixtures and procedures, development and reporting.
  • Work with mechanical design and manufacturers to ensure required tolerances, clearance & fits can be achieved prior to final specification for manufacture.
  • Define components (and where necessary processes) to be used in hardware manufacture/test.
  • Specify electronic components and liaise and communicate with suppliers as required.
  • Act as inhouse electronics expert for investigations of issues, cost down

Experience:

Proven track record in Electronics Hardware Design Engineering from development through to manufacturing and production at a high level.

Design leadership experience in product development lifecycle with proven record of delivering innovative design solutions.

Electronic engineering qualification to degree level (2:1 or above) from a recognised University or similar experience.

Excellent experience in hardware and electro-mechanical design for small to medium volume manufacture.

Good working knowledge of embedded firmware design.

Good understanding of device to device communication principles (RS232, RS485 and I2C)

An appreciation of Software and App development techniques would be useful but not essential.

Good working knowledge of PCBA manufacturing processes including tooling & testing.

Good understanding of EMC testing.

"Hands-on" - building of electronic prototypes and product testing in the lab.

Understanding of tolerance analysis/clearance and fits with mechanical components.


Management of BOM's, 3D & 2D technical drawings, and embedded firmware files/documentation, within the context of a structured new product development process.

Experience of working in a high performance and fast paced environment.

Regular dealings with senior management and ability to manage their expectations.
