Purpose:

As an Academy Coach you will support the development of the programme and players within the Foundation Phase (U11/U12).


The Role:


  • To plan & support the delivery of coaching sessions in the Foundation Phase.
  • To provide environments and challenges that maximise the potential of all players, develop personal growth and provide life enriching experiences and memories that last a lifetime.
  • To plan & support individuals in teams within the Foundation Phase on a match day.
  • To support the Head of Player Development with the individual development of Foundation Phase players via bespoke training and games programme's and individual development plans.
  • To support the development of Pre-Academy players as required.
  • To provide feedback for players and parents/guardians via parent's meetings.
  • To contribute to the player recruitment process where required.
  • To contribute to retention decisions where required.
  • To lead trips and tours nationally and abroad.
  • To manage & support part time and casual staff members within the Foundation phase.
  • To collaborate with support services to promote the development of Academy players.
  • To work closely with the Foundation Phase Operations Lead.
  • To demonstrate and promote high standards of personal and professional standards both on and off the pitch.
  • To continue with CPD and maintain/develop relevant qualifications.

The Person:


  • UEFA B Licence
  • FA Advanced Youth Award (or working towards this award) preferable.
  • Child protection / Safeguarding Award
  • Current First Aid qualification.
  • Experience of working with young players of high potential
  • A track record of supporting the development of high performing players
  • An enthusiasm for and understanding of young people
  • A commitment to supporting young people to reach their full potential
  • A commitment to ensuring that Manchester United's Academy continues to be a world leading learning environment for players and staff
  • An understanding of the philosophy and culture of Manchester United.
  • Relevant IT skills
  • Excellent organizational skills and an ability to work with total discretion.
  • Ability to work on own initiative, unsupervised and as an effective team member.
  • The ability to make sound decisions in a timely manner and practical approach to problem solving.
  • Sound personal qualities such as communication skills, the ability to work in a team environment, selfmotivation, enthusiasm and ability to work under pressure.
  • A willingness to work flexible hours in accordance with the demands of the role.
  • Full driving license.
