The Role & Key Responsibilities

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the Camera & Ticket Process Unit within the Sussex Safer Roads Partnership.


The role will be to prepare and process the administration of all Fixed Penalty Road Traffic offences throughout Sussex, sourced from all areas within the organisation e.g.

Sussex Safer Roads Partnership (SSRP), Road Policing Unit (RPU) and Divisional Officers.

To ensure appropriate disposal within prescribed time limits, encompassing diversion courses via National Driver Offender Retraining Scheme (NDORS), Conditional Offers and Court process in order to reduce the numbers of killed and seriously injured (KSI) users of Sussex roads.

You will be responsible for the preparation and administration of offences generated by the Force e.g.

Safety Camera Detections, Traffic Offence Reports (TOR), Fixed Penalty Tickets (FPT), Penalty Notices for Disorder (PND) and Vehicle Defect Rectification (VDR).

To accurately input and administer all Road Traffic and Public Order offences into bespoke CTSU systems such as NICHE, PENTIP, ATLAS, Hummingbird Document Manager (DM), EROS, Driver Vehicle Search (DVS) and NDORS thus enabling effective and efficient processing, ensuring appropriate outcomes within prescribed timelines set by legislation, National Police Chiefs Council (NPCC) and NDORS guidelines.


To check eligibility regarding various courses for offenders, input their information into NDORS, and liaise with all course providers, but in particular Sussex Driver Training.

To administer the process and actively promote and encourage educational diversion courses to offenders in order to change driver behaviour for continued road safety and as an alternative to prosecution.

To administer PND's and refer appropriate offenders to Alcohol and Drug Diversion Schemes in order to educate and in some cases rehabilitate.

To prepare and process different forms of evidential offence media and images (eg digital, DVD and wet films) generated from SSRP and RPU.

Identifying accuracy and the severity of the offences to determine the correct course of action. Ensure all evidence captured is correct and can stand up to scrutiny throughout the entire process.

To respond to all forms of correspondence on a daily basis and be the first point of contact from the public, SSRP, Sussex Police officers, Magistrates Court / Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) and other external agencies for technical, legislative and general enquiries.

Ensure that any disclosure is within the terms of the Data Protection Act 1998.

To make decisions on a daily basis, dealing with mitigation, complaints from members of the public, both verbally and written, taking into consideration time frames, evidence, legislation, public interest and various forms of emergencies and/or exemptions.


To liaise closely with Safety Camera Enquiry Officers, Case Workers, Case Directors, Camera Technicians, Force colleagues and course providers on a daily basis regarding offenders and offences.

To prepare large quantities of court files, including statements on behalf of Camera Technicians, RPU and Divisional Officers for all Road Traffic and Public Order offences, ensuring all evidence is contained in readiness for prosecution.

To provide additional administrative support to Operations Department, Camera Technicians, RPU and Divisional Officers during road policing safety initiatives, both national and international campaigns e.g.

European Traffic Police Network (TISPOL).

To attend court when required and give concise, factual evidence on behalf of SSRP and Sussex Police.


Undertake other duties appropriate to the grade and character of work as may be reasonably required, including specific duties of a similar or lesser graded post.
