DATA OFFICER

CARDINAL HUME CENTRE, WESTMINSTER, LONDON

Part-time 0.6 31,069 FTE

Fixed term (6 months) to start as soon as possible

CLOSING DATE:

About the Cardinal Hume Centre and this role:
The Cardinal Hume Centre works to prevent and tackle youth and family homelessness.

The Centre prides itself on its welcome and person centred approach. It recognises each individual is different, often with complex needs and so our response must be multi-layered.

We therefore have six principal services:

residential services for homeless young people; family support; housing and welfare rights advice; employment support; learning; and immigration advice and advocacy.

The Centre is based within five minutes' walk from Parliament but it is also in the borough with the highest level of rough sleeping in the Country and the highest proportion of households living in temporary homes.

With an annual income in the region of £2.9 million, the Centre currently employs around 60 members of staff. We also benefit from a loyal supporter base and the generous contribution of around 100 volunteers.

In nearly all its forms, homelessness is increasing and in Westminster around a third of families are already living in poverty and we now face a new cost of living crisis as residents try to rebuild following the pandemic.

People face some of the highest housing costs in the country, a challenging labour market and rising levels of violent crime.

Some of those we support come from care or broken relationships which can limit access to the backing most of us take for granted.

Some are seeking asylum, safety and support.

In 2020, we launched our current Business Plan, where we stated our intent to focus more of our efforts on young people, children and families.

We adopted a deliberately preventative strategy, aiming to tackle homelessness, poor housing and poverty at an early age and break its cycle into later life.

To help us achieve this plan, we took some time in 2021 to document our theory of change.

This process enabled us to articulate how our unique service mix enables us to support people both in the short and longer-term.

We also identified the range of outcomes we are working towards achieving with our clients.

Since then, we have been establishing the systems, processes and data management structures we need to have in place in order to ensure that we able to appropriately monitor our progress and impact, and to help us learn from our work.

This has included introducing a new quarterly monitoring framework, reviewing our client feedback processes and upgrading our database to ensure that we are able to capture the data and information we need to in order to learn from about our work and the needs of our clients.

Our Evidence, Impact and Learning Manager recently moved on and we are considering the needs of the Centre before recruiting to this role.

In the interim we need a data officer who can help us to ensure that the Centre has the data it needs to analyse its impact and report on this to its funders, Senior Management Team and Board of Trustees.
