Responsibilities:
- Sourcing of raw materials & finished goods through new & existing suppliers
- Undertake research on and evaluate existing and new suppliers
- Assess tenders and quotations from potential suppliers
- Negotiate contracts, improved prices and terms of business with suppliers and review opportunities to make business savings utilising negotiation and procurement best practice tools and methods
- Identify, manage and mitigate risk within the supply chain
- Contact suppliers to resolve price, quality, delivery or invoice issues
- Track commodity pricing, market trends & competitor strategies
- Assess and evaluate suppliers and undertake performance reviews to ensure contract compliance and manage performance improvement activities
- Ensure that a professional and consistent approach is taken in relation to all supplier relationships
- Monitor forecasts to identify changes and to determine their effect on supply chain activities
- Liaising with all internal stakeholders, building and maintaining key relationships
- Research and evaluate areas of opportunity and reduce costs where possible
- Develop creative and innovative procurement processes
- Develop ideas and strategies to improve operational efficiency, add value, aid business performance and work towards a strategy of continuous improvement.
- Prepare purchase orders in line with final negotiations with selected suppliers and in line with organisational targets and requirements
- Support product change requests and review and communicate the impact on capacity plans
- Build, maintain and manage supplier relationships and ensure good communications.

Beneficial Requirements:
- Ideally a relevant manufacturing/engineering degree or similar qualification
- Time served experience in a buying or similar role
- Proven purchasing experience, preferably within a manufacturing environment
- Ability to add value, reduce costs and make business improvements
- Contract management and supplier experience
- Strong knowledge and understanding of supply chain management & commodity markets
- Experience or demonstrated knowledge of vendor development from a Lean perspective & Kanban implementation desirable
