Our client is an established national mental healthcare provider offering high quality care to people with severe and enduring mental health needs.
Responsibilities
To be responsible for the catering operations including kitchen management, planning, preparation and cooking of meals and maintaining, cleanliness and hygiene standards within the kitchen areas.
- prepare, cook and serve hot and cold meals, as and when required.
- presentation and display of the food should be maintained at a high standard
- to be familiar with the dietary requirements of the service users to ensure that meals are nutritious and meet the requirements.
Communication and training
- liaise with the home manager when planning/ costing menus in order to provide a balanced, nutritious diet, making the best use of available food produce.
- arrange/participate in staff and resident meetings as required.
- ensure that regular feedback is received to ensure that meals are meeting the service users' preferences.
- complete mandatory online training
- attend and complete mandatory training days/courses, on or off site, as and when required.
Budgetary/financial control
- order stocks and check deliveries are in line with what was ordered. Ensure all stock is rotated accurately to ensure efficient and economic use of supplies.
- maintain accurate records of food supplies, ensuring that purchasing is maintained within the agreed budget.
- ensure weekly stock checks are completed and reported to the home manager and all stock signed in and out where appropriate by all staff who have access to food supplies health & safety.
- ensure the maintenance of the statutory health and safety standards in the kitchen and dining areas.
- ensure that food hygiene regulations are being met.
- ensure all crockery and equipment is cleaned and stored appropriately, and that the overall cleaning of the kitchen area is carried out effectively.
- report immediately to the home manager, or designated deputy, any illness of an infectious nature or accident incurred by a resident, colleague or self.
- understand, and ensure the implementation within your remit of, the companies managing food policies and procedures.
- check and accurately record freezer/fridge temperatures
- to carry out daily knives counts and keep all knives locked when not in use
- report to the home manager any faulty appliances or equipment or any potential hazards. Monitor the regular maintenance of all kitchen equipment.
- promote safe working practice in the home.
- adhere to the companies disposal of waste process.
- to ensure yourself-appearance and uniform are kept clean and your nails remain short and free of dirt. Below the elbows should be free of jewellery and nail vanish
General
- ensure that all information of confidential nature gained in the course of duty is not divulged to third parties.
- to always treat residents with courtesy and dignity.

Requirements:
- Prior experience of cooking and cleaning
- Understanding of food safety
- Ability to be the only cook on shift
