Duties/Main Tasks:

To provide a friendly and helpful 'public face' for the Meeting House, respond positively to booking enquiries and give a hospitable and warm welcome to visitors and room hirers.

Managing the facility:

  • To take daytoday responsibility for the opening up, general security and safekeeping of the building.
  • To oversee staff (contract or selfemployed) and volunteers to clean and maintain the building including access to the flats and garden area, but also to take overall responsibility to ensure that these areas are maintained to the expected standard, which may at times involve undertaking some of these tasks as part of the role.

  • For much repair and maintenance outside contractors will be used. The Warden will be required to identify suitable firms and obtain quotations or estimates to present to the Management Committee. The Warden will engage and supervise the work of these contractors.

Managing room hire:

  • The Warden will manage room bookings for the many groups (often small community groups but also larger more "corporate" organisations) that hire the Meeting House's rooms.
  • This involves discussing and agreeing a booking (a booking agreement with the hirer), maintaining a booking calendar, supporting the booking itself and assisting the billing and collection process (which is led by the WSAQM Bookkeeper).
  • The Warden will bank cheque and cash payments from hirers.
The Warden will be an ex-officio member of the Management Committee and attend all meetings. The Management Committee receives monthly financial reports in respect of the Meeting House income and costs.

As part of the Committee the Warden will seek to manage the financial performance of Taunton Meeting House as a "cost centre" with ultimate supervision of financial budgets and targets resting with trustees of WSAQM.
