g39 is seeking to appoint an Intern to support the delivery of the busy and exciting 2023 programme. You will be in the early stages of developing a career in the visual arts sector.

As the g39 Intern you will gain training, experience and insight to the creative and operational processes involved in running an arts organisation.

This will equip you with skills, knowledge and connections that can support your career ambitions beyond the internship.


Period of employment: 5 July - 22 December 2023

Salary:
£19, = £11,902) per year


Hours of work:
Part-time, 22.5 hours per week, 9:30am-5:30pm, Wednesday - Saturday (when we are open to the public you will be expected to work every Saturday)

g Programme


We start off the summer with the season _Commonplace_, shaped around the OPEN presented in partnership with Made in Roath and focussed events through PRIDE month.

It is a celebration of artists' work at every age, career level, experience and engagement level. This season will bring lots of events with the aim to activate the space with conversation and collaboration.

This is followed by a project with Artangel; they collaborate with artists who defy boundaries to give form to extraordinary ideas.

The art they produce boldly responds to the environment in which we live. Alongside this programme we have the fourth cohort of g39 fellows in residence at g39.


The role


You will work with Caitlin Davies (Public Programmer) and the rest of the g39 team to support the research and delivery of public events, workshops and socials, these will all aim to boost g39's community engagement.

These activities will complement and extend our exhibition and residency programmes and help g39 in its mission to act as a bridge between communities, the public and artists.


As g39 Intern you will be responsible for:

  • Being an artistic and creative ally for artists
  • Being a facilitator for conversation between artists and our communities
  • Administrative support for the programme
  • Programme marketing

As g39 Intern, your duties will be:

  • Marketing
  • Contributing to marketing content for g39's social media platforms, Bulletin and website, according to g39's marketing policy.


  • Research

  • Supporting the programme's vision and goal by developing an informed understanding about each person or group we work with.


  • Upholding wellbeing

  • Managing access riders to ensure suitable measures are in place to meet individuals needs as required throughout their work with g39 (e.g. support workers, interpreters, large print documents, childcare, accommodation). Assisting with the monitoring of these needs on an ongoing basis.
  • Engaging with the public
  • Being the first point of contact for visitors while working at the front desk, as well as, assisting with the organising and hosting of social events for g39's community.


  • Programming

  • Working with the rest of the g39 team in supporting delivery of programme content including: liaising with guest contributors; scheduling events and activities; booking onetoone sessions; ensuring physical / virtual space is available, prepared and accessible for events and activities; supporting hosting as required (physical and virtual).


  • Evaluation

  • Collecting evaluation material and data throughout the programme according to a provided framework / system (eg. Equal Opportunities forms, informal conversations about how events went, written evaluation forms).


  • General

  • Assisting in other duties required for the daytoday running of the organisation.

What you can expect from g39

  • Weekly checkin meetings with the Public Programmer.
  • Access to the full g39 programme including workshops, 11 sessions, talks, group crits, social events and staff training.
  • Training in Health and Safety and organisational procedures.
