My client is currently recruiting for a strong maintenance officer to work in their growing team located in Canning Town, East London.


This role's salary is £34650 with some of the benefits including 32 days of holiday including the 8 days of bank holiday, parking available, training provided and internal career progression.

The hours will be either 8am to 4pm or 9am to 6pm.


Purpose of Post:


Reporting to the Building Maintenance Manager, the Building Maintenance Officer will support the delivery of a high-quality facilities management service the college sites.

The post holder will be responsible for carrying out building inspections & audits,co-ordinating reactive day to day maintenance, programmed maintenance and works contract, whilst providing a professional service on all aspects of property and construction in respect to the college's building assets.


Key Deliverables:

  • To support the Facilities Management Team to ensure compliance with all regulations and legislative responsibilities associated with the college's sites. E.g. Legionella, Asbestos, Fire Safety etc.
  • To ensure health & safety checks including fire alarm testing, legionella flushing, emergency light testing, and site safety/security checks are carried out regularly at college's sites, maintaining the safety and welfare of members of the public and staff.
  • To carry out a preventative, planned maintenance program and undertake routine inspections of the premises, fixtures, fittings, utility meters, and grounds.
  • To coordinate/carry out repairs, maintenance, improvement works and inspections to ensure the general upkeep and maintenance of the premises.
  • To develop, procure, implement and monitor contracts/projects (generally up to £100k) for "hard" facilities management services to college's owned/managed sites collaborating with the Procurement Lead as and when necessary.
  • To act as a contact for Contractors attending sites, ensuring they are fully aware of the college's attendance procedures, that they will follow full H&S procedures/risk assessments and permits to work are issued/reviewed where required. To ensure keys,access cards and access codes/fobs are signed out and recovered according to procedures, to maintain security of buildings.
  • To provide technical advice on repairs and maintenance across college's owned/managed sites.
  • To undertake any other duties as may reasonably be required as part of the facilities management service. This job description is intended only as a guide to the range of duties involved. The post holder will need to be flexible and adaptable to respondto other duties that may be required from time to time and the changes and developments within HDC.


This role also included an out of hours rota for the fire alarm which you will be placed on and paid extra for each call out.

The client is looking for somebody with a stable work history, somebody lively and definitely pro-active towards duties.

Also you will need to have 5+ years maintenance experience with a general understanding of emergency procedures.
