Calling all NEC/JCT/ICC contracts specialists Careys are recruiting for a Contracts Specialist with first hand contractual and commercial knowledge and experience gained with a civil engineering contractor.
Joining an established team/company, you will partner with regional leadership and the work-winning teams in liaison with our clients - analysing, advising and negotiating contractual terms to identify and mitigate commercial risk on our projects.
This role can be based from either our London (Wembley or Kings Cross) or Milton Keynes regional offices, in support of our London & South East and Midlands regions.
Key Responsibilities
As Contract Specialist, you will form a critical part of our work-winning process, reviewing and co-ordinating contractual terms and conditions across suite of contract types (typically NEC/JCT and ICC inc. bespoke contracts) and range of clients/sectors.
- Key responsibilities include;_
- Coordinate closely with the workwinning team to understand the scope of works and use this information to assess project risks.
- Liaise with Clients and their representatives to negotiate and conclude contractual discussions.
- Understand commercial issues to manage business requirements and needs inc. pricing and operational delivery.
- Review wording of Parent Company Guarantees, collateral warranties and bonds (performance, retention bonds, etc) and facilitate the execution of the required documents.
- Check contract documents upon contract awarded to ensure they are correct.
- Familiarise the operational/site teams with the rights and obligations under the contract once it has been awarded.
- Provide contractual advice in respect of subcontract, contract and commercial matters including additional entitlements.
- Data analysis and presentation of regional tender and project information.
- Administration and document control of all contract documents.
Person Specification
Contracts Specialists within Careys operate within a specialist remit of our Commercial function. There is no standard/typical career path leading into this role, however, specific skills/experience are required to be considered;
- A professional qualification or degree in construction, quantity surveying or law
- Contractual and commercial experience gained with a civil engineering contractor
- Detailed knowledge of the standard forms of contract (JCT, NEC and ICC suite of contracts)
- Negotiation skills within contractual environments
- Demonstrated ability with drafting and presenting contractual amendments and claims

- 37.5hrs per week. Monday-Friday 9am to 5.30pm (1hr lunch).
