Duties

We are looking for caring, compassionate, reliable people that have a desire to make a positive impact on the lives of children and young people within the community.

Experience and Qualifications in Health and Social care/or equivalent are essential. Full training will be provided.

Key Responsibilities:
Day Respite Services

Promote the children and young people's physicals and emotional wellbeing, including support with personal care.

- contribute to the preparation and presentation of written records, assessments and formal reports relating to the children and young people.

Contribute to and implement contact plans.
Ensure that the children, young people and their families are consulted informed and supported.

To support the delivery of the supervised contact ensuring;

Children are kept safe and their emotional wellbeing is safeguarded during contact with family members who have been assessed as posing a level of risk to them.
Positive relationships are satisfied between a child and their nonresident family members wherever possible.
Parents are supported practically and emotionally to make supervised contact sessions a positive experience wherever possible.
Harmful or abusive contact is recognised, reported and steps taken to reduce or remove any such harm or abuse.
Provide transport for children/young people for which a mileage allowance is payable.

Main duties

Supervise children within the community/chosen venue, within the family home or in other setting such as hospital.
Enable children and young people who are being looked after by the local authority to fully access their right to good quality time with their family and significant others.
Provide transport for children/young people for which a mileage allowance is payable.
Work with colleagues from other agencies in delivering services to children and their families and work in partnership with all concerned at times of crisis ensuring that the child's Social Worker is kept up to date.
Keep accurate written records of work with children and their families and contribute to any reports that are required.
Engage appropriately in supervision and access training as required to promote the delivery of a high quality service.
Follow Ymestyn's policies and procedures especially those with regard to equalities, safeguarding, whistleblowing, confidentiality and lone working.

Qualifications & skills:

The minimum requirement is an NVQ Level 3 in Child or Social Care with GSCE English and Maths Grade C or above.

The following skills, experience and personal qualities are also likely to be either essential or desirable:

Understanding of family dynamics, the impact on children and parents of family breakdown and current related issues.
Demonstrable knowledge and understanding of Family Law, in particular as it relates to separated families and the provision of contact.
Ability to make detailed observations and provide accurate reports.
Demonstrable competence in identifying need and assisting in support of an overall programme of intervention and casework.
Knowledge of safeguarding children and child protection, with an understanding of key risk factors.
Knowledge and understanding of the role of the (Local Authority) Designated Officer.
Capacity to anticipate, diffuse and manage conflict.
Knowledge and understanding of other related initiatives and fields, e.g. adult mental health, parenting techniques, domestic violence, family law.
Ability to work closely and nonjudgmentally with other people, showing an understanding of boundaries and a commitment to equal opportunities and antidiscriminatory working.
Excellent communication skills with all ages and ability to provide clear, written information.
Ability to deal sensitively with people under stress.
IT skills.
Positive attitude towards training and development.
Willingness to work flexibly and outside office hours.

Essential;
Experience in child and family setting, full driving license and access to car.

Desirable;
Paediatric First Aid Trained
