Kirriemuir,
Angus; just 19 miles from Dundee.

The Role


The role is on a
full-time basis and is to join the team in producing woven technical têxtiles, which are to specified quality and consistency standards.

You will be trained onsite in the operation of a calendaring machine and the inspection of technical têxtiles.

We are ideally seeking individuals who are suited and prepared to follow instruction, whilst learning with the mentoring of colleagues and following an established training programme.

An additional part of the role is to operate a Calender machine. Calendering is the process of coating, smoothing and compressing a material during the production process.

The material is passed through a liquid bath and then through heated rollers, to create the desired surface finish and texture required by our customers.

Controlling speed, temperature and cleanliness are key to this process. This fabric is frequently used in parachutes and hot air balloons, so maintaining very high quality standards is vital.


You will have the ability to take in new information and build a sound understanding of fabric and any associated weaving faults.

You will learn how to check for correct fabric qualities and find common faults.

Following your training you will be required to:

  • Be responsible for inspecting the quality of our fabrics prior to dispatch to our customers, or following the dyeing process completed by an external provider.
  • Contact the Production Manager or the Verification Assurance Manager in cases of queries on procedures or products and issues related to defective equipment, yarns or fabrics.
  • Create inspection reports and input into online system where appropriate.
  • Follow all instructions and specifications correctly to meet order requirements.
  • Carry out inspection and verify status to match customer requirements.
  • Work closely with the Quality Department, ensuing all issues are dealt with in a timely manner.
  • Work effectively as part of the production team be able to respond to changing requirements and promote a 'right first time, no fault' forward approach to quality.
  • Understand safe working requirements and always operate within the Company's health and safety framework.
  • Keep the equipment and work areas, within your area of responsibility, both clean and serviceable at all times.
  • Carry out any other duties as required to suit the needs of the business.
  • Work additional overtime as and when required.
  • Provide operational cover for absence/holidays across all shift patterns.
  • Once fully competent, assist in providing training and support for new team members.

You should be conscientious, strive to exceed expectations and ensure we deliver quality technical têxtiles to our customers.

Your ability to complete the above will be complemented by:

  • A quality focused approach and attitude.
  • Strong attention to detail: you will need to have the ability to check the fabric is completed to specification and free from flaws and errors. Alternatively, complete accurate reporting of any flaws, defects or marks within the fabric at specific points and outlining the nature of the issues in a standard report format.
  • Good eyesight (including near vision, distance vision, colour vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to change focus).
  • Excellent dexterity is vital to the role.
  • Ability to work upon your own initiative and effectively as part of a team, with clear communication to both managers and colleagues.
  • Given the industrial work environment and complexity of machinery some work experience of operating machinery is preferable, although full training will be provided.
  • We are looking for an individual who can provide a positive contribution with the ability to work independently, whilst also maintaining good working relationships with colleagues.
