Activity and Engagement Officer (Bristol and South West)
Home based, 30 hours a week across 4-5 days, with occasional weekend and evening work. 3 year fixed term contract. Salary £27,000 pro rata.

Re-engage is a charity that is positive about older age and committed to fighting loneliness so that people can have social lives and friendship groups however old they are.

We inspire and enable meaningful connections and shared experiences within communities across the UK for people aged 75 and over facing loneliness and social isolation.


Our core services are:

  • Social gatherings, predominantly tea parties; Call companions, a telephone befriending service, and rainbow call companions for LGBT+ older people; Community Christmas, focused activity groups.

The Activity and Engagement Officer role is at the heart of ensuring Re-engage's lasting impact


Key tasks will include:

Setting up new activity groups and recruiting volunteers to support and run our sessions across the South West.

Our activity groups range from gentle exercise, Tai Chi, chair yoga, dance and boccia to help reduce loneliness and increase activity levels in peopled aged 75+.

Recruiting and supporting volunteers to create and develop new activity-based groups in focused areas of the South West.


Growing and developing our network of referral partners across the South West to ensure that the work of Re-engage is promoted and offered to people aged 75 and over who are lonely, isolated or in need of companionship.


Identifying speaking and presenting opportunities and forums to ensure that the work of Re-engage is widely known and understood by referrers.


Raising awareness of our wider services amongst the public, voluntary sector and identifying key partners and referral agencies for our activity groups along with other Re-engage services.

Arranging for the distribution of promotional materials within local communities, for example, community spaces, libraries, places of worship etc.

Supporting the wider team, especially the impact team and the communications team, by collating case studies.

Researching and participating in volunteer recognition initiatives.

Informing the fundraising team of any opportunities - such as local authority grants, companies, trusts, or individuals.


About you

You'll be a part of a passionate team which is responsible for introducing our life-changing services to older people.

You'll be given the tools that you need and then will be tasked with growing and developing your network of referrers, partners, and others who will help you reach what can be a hard-to-reach group of people.

Knowledge, skills and attributes

Essential
Excellent people skills with a proven ability to collaborate with professionals, partners, older people, volunteers and colleagues.

Experience of working across different sectors and developing links with other organisations.

Organised and methodical approach to work with strong administrative and IT skills.

Self-motivated, able to work remotely with mínimal supervision, as well as part of a wider team.

Experience of working to deadlines and meeting KPIs.

Able to engage with older people and attend groups (where needed) across the South West, when required.

Understanding of, and empathy with, the issues affecting older people who are isolated, and lonely.


Desirable
Experience of community engagement, including online engagement.

Knowledge of the local charity sector.

Experience in setting up and launching groups with a focus on physical activity.

Experience of delivering and implementing community projects.


Full driving licence and own car preferred as this post will require travel throughout the South West, as and when required.

Understanding of volunteer journey, including recruitment and engagement.


This role also requires:

A dedicated place to work in your home.

Sufficient broadband for permanent Wi-Fi access to multiple cloud-based systems.

An enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service check.
