Description
A opportunity has arisen for a Medical Secretary to work at South Yorkshire Orthopaedic Services, based in Rotherham.

We are seeking a motivated, positive individual to become part of the Orthopaedic secretarial team.

You will have previous Medical Secretarial or Secretarial Support experience and be responsible for the provision of medical audio-typing services, Consultant diary management, theatre bookings management, invoicing and the monitoring of patient pathways.

You will also act as a point of liaison between patients, GPs, other staff and outside agencies.

To undertake a comprehensive medical secretarial service to the consultant and his team including time management.


To maintain quality and up to date patient case notes which include entering clinic comments and acting upon the instructions therein.

To be responsible for the delivery (typing) of accurate clinical letters and discharge summaries.

To act as an initial point of contact for GP's, other consultant's medical staff, health care professions, patients etc.

Ability to deal with conflicting and changing priorities within existing resources through initiative.

Recognises the ability of others and works as a team to resolve issues jointly.


Monitor results and chase outstanding results when necessary to ensure patient pathways are managed accurately and in a timely manner.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

Typing correspondence to patients, GPs, medical staff and any other required addressee following clinical attendance.

Typing detailed medical reports for legal use when necessary.


Diary management, including making appointments, booking meeting dates and venues, organising and distributing paperwork as required by the clinical team/supervisor.

Theatre management of designated Consultants.

Invoicing.

Liaising with external organisations for the benefit and progress of patient care, such as GP practices, other hospitals, etc

Take ownership and responsibility for the workload of a team of Consultants.

Qualifications
Essential criteria

  • Educated to GCSE grade C or above (or equivalent) in literacy and numeracy
Desirable criteria

  • RSA Level three/Speed typing qualification or demonstrable experience
  • NVQ in Administration level 3 Computer literate in Microsoft Office packages

Experience
Essential criteria

  • Minimum 1 years experience in a hospital or office environment
  • Previous secretarial experience
  • Accurate audio typing
  • Good communication and social skills

Knowledge/ Skills
Essential criteria

  • Good command and understanding of English, punctuation and grammar
  • Flexible team worker
  • Motivated and innovative
  • Computer literate in MS Word, Outlook/Diary management

Job Types:
Full-time, Part-time

Part-time hours: 37 per week


Salary:
£19,521.98-£22,634.68 per year
