Frazer-Nash is a leading provider of consultancy services to a range of clients across the UK and beyond, and we are looking for a self-motivated and experienced person to lead the growth of our fire engineering capability across a range of industries.

Our recent fire safety projects at Frazer-Nash have included supporting civil nuclear new build and decommissioning projects, supporting defence safety cases, and investigating the impact of renewable energy technologies such as lithium-ion battery cars upon existing risk assessments for safety-critical infrastructure.

Does this sound like you?

  • Do you possess considerable experience in the technical aspects of fire safety, ideally with experience of Quantitative Risk Assessment and associated consequence analysis methods?
  • Are you familiar with undertaking fire assessments for the civil nuclear, defence, or similar safetycritical industries?
  • Are you keen to use these skills to support our clients, developing relationships, leading existing projects, identifying new opportunities and writing winning bids?
  • Whatever the project, you enjoy being part of a closeknit and capable team, whether working with colleagues to deliver a range of projects to external clients, or alongside clients in embedded roles. You always take ownership of your work, whether delivering multidisciplinary projects with a team of colleagues, or acting as a project manager or technical lead to deliver technical work to quality, time and cost.
  • Proactive in developing your skills and delivering your work, you won't hesitate to reach out to colleagues for advice and support when needed, and to share your experience to support others. If this is you, we would love to hear from you.
We are looking for someone to join our team to work on the following aspects of fire safety with our clients:

  • Identification of the fire hazards specific to a facility,
  • Determination of the frequencies and consequences of these hazards,
  • Taking account of fire protection measures,
  • Identifying shortfalls against legislation and relevant best practice,
  • Documenting findings as technical reports and presentations,
  • Providing your expertise as a customer friend undertaking independent technical assessment of existing fire safety documents,
  • Presenting at conferences and publishing articles and papers to reinforce your reputation in this field.

Requirements:

Your specific fire experience will encompass some, or all, of the following:

  • Identification of fire hazard scenarios for a given facility using site visits, stakeholder interviews, and review of existing documentation (e.g. HAZID/HAZOP);
  • Fire hazard initiating event frequency calculations (e.g. LOPA, FTA);
  • Managing the compilation of combustible inventories within buildings;
  • Fire modelling and simulation (e.g. CFAST, FDS, PHAST, FLACS-CFD)
  • Identifying Shortfalls and Forward Actions against relevant legislation and best practice (e.g. British Standards, ONR TAGs, HSE publications, etc.);
  • Fire Risk Assessments and Design Basis fire scenario development.
You should be a Chartered Engineer with a relevant institution (e.g. IFE), or be able to demonstrate equivalence.
It is also considered beneficial to have a good understanding of parallel legislation, such as DSEAR, COSHH, COMAH, etc.

Working in a consultancy environment, you will be responsible for all aspects of your relationship with clients, from identification of new opportunities to project management and delivery of existing projects to client satisfaction, on time and on budget.
