Job overview:

The post arisen as result of medical vacancy due to Maternity leave cover, this is full time post [10 PA/week].

In line with the NHS England Transforming Care Agenda Cornwall had been a pioneer in developing a holistic model of care for people with LD.

National plan for the future of LD service delivery "Building the Right Support" released in 10/2015 recognised that Cornwall has not only got no dedicated inpatient beds for people with LD but also the lowest number of patients in out of country hospitals / for the country.

Main duties of the job:

The Consultant will not be expected to case manage patients.

The postholder will provide outpatient and community
- based services as needed supported by a full multi-disciplinary team. All inpatient admissions to local psychiatric units are supported by a Mental Health / LD Liaison nurse, a green light LD consultant and any out of county admissions by the county wide Intensive support Team, (IST) members co-located in the MDT. The post holder is expected to liaise with these personnel as needed if the admission arises from their community patch.

In Cornwall the LD Consultant [including this post] is expected to act as Responsible Clinician for detained patients admitted from LD service, therefore must be approved under Section 12 of the Mental Health Act 1983 and be an Approved Clinician.
