Description
The Export Strategy highlighted an ambition to deliver a new end-to-end Export Support Service (ESS) for UK Exporters.

This ambition is being delivered through the Export Support Service Programme (ESSP), which is bringing together DIT's export services into a cohesive ecosystem in order to deliver a better service to customers and deliver efficiencies.


DIT currently delivers a number of services to support businesses to export, including the Export Support team for businesses exporting to Europe, the recently in-housed EITA service, the Export Academy and the recently launched ESS International Markets offer.

Bringing together these services into a coherent ecosystem will improve the quality of support available to businesses, maximising the value for money achieved across all offers.

The services will align around an agreed channel strategy, setting the direction for how the services target support at different businesses.


The vision for the programme includes delivering of a consolidated-access point for businesses looking to engage with DIT export support.

This access point will build out from the current export support team, supporting UK exporters to Europe to support businesses exporting anywhere in the world, leveraging improved use of self-serve digital content and data.


The Role

  • The role will work in the Exports Design Team who own the development of the design to achieve this vision. The role presents an exciting opportunity to blend both project and policy work to deliver the Target Operating Model for the ESSP.
  • Working closely with the PMO, ensuring that the risks and issues that relate to design are accurately captured, while ongoing work is factored into the plan. The role will be responsible for running the Design Authority monthly meetings.
  • Support the improvement of operational processes across the ecosystem, working closely with different service line teams to ensure that design embeds the operational expertise that sits across different teams.
  • Support development of artefacts such as process maps, toolkits, workplans and playbooks

The Role

The postholder will be expected to:

  • Run the regular Design Authority meetings, being responsible for agendas, actions and minutes.
  • Represent the Exports Design team in monthly meetings with the ESS programme team to ensure that risks and issues that relate to the Design Authority are captured, updated and managed. Work wih the ESS Programme team to ensure the Design plan is appropriately factored into the Programme plan.
  • Work closely with relevant teams to support the development of improved operational processes.
  • Support, owning elements within them, the development of necessary artefacts such as process maps, playbook, toolkits and workplans for the ESSP.
  • Work with the ESS change team to support communication of the Exports Design team's activities.

Hybrid working
Please be aware that this role can only be worked from within the UK and not overseas.


Informal hybrid working arrangements will be available as agreed with the vacancy manager and in line with the requirements of the role.


Most DIT employees will be working a hybrid pattern, spending 2-3 days a week (pro rata) in an office, on average.

If your office location is London, you will be eligible to receive London weighting.


Person specification

Essential Criteria

  • Experience working on, and knowledge of, DIT's Export Support Programmes.
  • Experience of running meetings, including setting agendas and taking minutes.
  • Experience of working closely with a Programme Management Office or a knowledge of risk and issue management/project planning

Desirable Criteria

  • Experience of developing operational design artefacts (e.g. operational playbooks, process maps)
