The role
As a Construction Health and Safety / CDM Specialist you'll have a role that's out of the ordinary.


Babcock provides services including fleet time engineering, facilities management, waterfront services, logistics and transport within an agreed operating budget, firmly focused on continuous and sustainable improvement in warship and submarine support.


Day to day, you'll support operational teams during the design phase to review drawings and design risk assessments, hazard logs, risk registers, pre-construction information relevant to the complexity of the project.


  • Ensure all precondition surveys are completed as required, i.e., asbestos surveys, structural surveys, ground condition assessments, environmental impact assessments, etc.
  • Support the review and processing of health and safety related documentation including subcontractor risk assessments, methods statements, safe systems of work, ensuring compliant delivery of projects.
  • Ensure Projects Department is compliant or at minimum working towards compliance regarding statutory / mandatory legislation. Identify all noncompliance issues and report through appropriate means. Investigate and follow up open issues through the NSER, CPAR, and Synergi systems.
  • Report and record nonconformance and incidents through the HMNB Clyde reporting system and following up any actions. Conduct investigations into the act or omission ensuring they are addressed accordingly.
  • Provide control to delivery as Nuclear Procedure Coordinator and ensures compliance to the Nuclear
  • Undertake reviews of Project Performance to ensure business needs are being met.
  • Provide expert advice and guidance on construction techniques, methods, and best practice to eradicate or reduce risk.
  • Ensure projects are formally closed and, where appropriate, subsequently reviewed, and that lessons learned are captured and actioned to champion continuous improvement.


This role is a full time / permanent position and will be based at Clyde (Faslane and Coulport) with hybrid working from home arrangements.


Essential experience of the Construction Health and Safety / CDM Specialist:

  • Ideally you will have both pre-construction and construction industry knowledge
  • You will be fully conversant with the range of company procedures and have robust knowledge of Health and Safety legislation and base standards.
  • Have knowledge of general construction techniques and principles, health and safety by design, safe systems of work, and process safety.
  • You will be able to working at height
  • Ability to challenge and influence designers.

Qualifications for the Construction Health and Safety / CDM Specialist:

  • NEBOSH Diploma / NVQ Level 5 or 6 or equivalent (or working towards) or equivalent
  • desirable
