Laboratory Training Supervisor reporting to our Head of Quality.

This position will be based in Cwmbran and will involve conducting pharmaceutical product analysis for our customers to a high degree of precision and efficiency.


This is how your journey begins:

Role Overview

  • To lead and manage a team of Laboratory Technicians (as required).
  • Determining and assessing the training and employee development needs for all laboratorybased teams.
  • Organising and acting as main point of contact for laboratory training.
  • Responsible for providing laboratory training to new starters, including laboratory policies, procedures and techniques.
  • Responsible for the creation of training records and supporting the maintenance of training records for laboratory employees and providing participants with feedback.
  • Identifying training needs and providing recommendations on programmes and activities.
  • Guiding managers and supervisors in developing training skills.
  • Conducting staff training for basic laboratory skills, assuring compliance with relevant competency forms and SOP's.
  • Administration of the competency form system, including the periodic reviews and relevance to established processes. The Laboratory Supervisor is not responsible for the direct updates to the competency forms, which lies with Managers and SMEs, but ensures alignment with the established laboratory practices and in accordance with cGMP.
  • Responsible for the review of all competency forms to ensure in line with
  • Working with employees, the human resources team and management to ensure the achievement of training objectives.
  • Writing training reports, keeping accurate records of training and supporting the Head of Operations with the management of the training budget.
  • Manage employee enrolment for training for laboratorybased staff, schedule training sessions and organising the resources to facilitate the training programmes.
  • Be the first point of contact for retraining requirements discovered in internal investigations.
  • Development of training videos to support laboratory staff training and new starter induction programmes. Responsible for ensuring training videos remain up to date and are available for all to access on SharePoint or through Aptar's learning platform, Horizon.
  • Support the human resources team and management to ensure new starter induction plans include relevant technical training and ensure training is completed within the required timeframe.
  • Support the development of laboratory training materials in Horizon, working as the assigned course manager and administrator.
  • Provide updates to management on the status of training programmes and flag any training concerns to ensure managers can support team members with appropriate development plans.
  • Organisation of the Laboratory Technician's activities, to include ensuring the following is maintained:
  • All glassware (cleaning and replenishing stock)
  • Stock of consumables (including, e.g., pipettes PPEs)
  • Organization and storage of all chemical's substances in according to safety instructions, updating stock list and replenishing where needed.
  • Laboratory waste disposal (proper designation of waste e.g., chlorinated and nonchlorinated)
  • All laboratory logbooks and making sure they are filled correctly.
  • Booking columns and standards (API, excipients, degradation products)
  • Practice safe work habits, including complying with all safety, health, and environmental rules and regulations.
