Salary:
£61,100 - £91,700 + car /car allowance + performance-related bonus + a range of benefits to support your finances, wellbeing and family.

Clean energy is at the heart of the global transition to net zero.

As more of our electricity comes from renewable sources, it is critical that the network infrastructure is in place to safely transport that electricity to homes and businesses.


SSEN Transmission, the owner and operator of the electricity transmission system in the north of Scotland, has a plan to spend over £10 billion during this decade in critical national infrastructure to deliver a network for net zero.

Our plans to do this requires working with partners and stakeholders to accelerate the connection of renewable generation and include the world first deployment of new technologies.

Throughout we will ensure our customers have a reliable and resilient supply of electricity.

What is the role?


This role is an exciting opportunity to lead the development and implementation of SSEN Transmission's strategy to realise our ambition of being recognised as a global leading electricity transmission owner in the just transition to net zero.

You will shape our actions in the rapidly changing GB energy landscape and lead our assessment of international markets. This is strategy with purpose in a dynamic, fast growing business.


Key responsibilities include:


Undertaking research and analysis to inform the setting and implementation of SSEN Transmission's business strategy, and deploying this analysis to shape and inform SSEN Transmission's strategic planning.

Subject matter expertise on market assessment, conducting research and analysis to inform business decision-making and being able to clearly translate how this impacts future opportunities.

Ongoing analysis of organisational strengths and weaknesses, operational effectiveness, opportunities and risks, and growth and improvement on a ten-year planning horizon.

Advise our Board and Executive Committee on strategic policy, risks and opportunities, and report on outcomes.

Establish strong relationships with key stakeholders across the energy industry, and be visible in representing SSEN Transmission in national and international events.

What do I need?

To be considered for this role, we would love you to be:

  • A leader of high performing teams, with experience in managing and coaching to drive results, and the resilience to lead an operational team, sometimes under pressure.
  • Commercially aware, conscientious, and pragmatic in your approach.
  • A strategic thinker and effective influencer with the vision and tenacity to deliver change in industry practices as well as internal system, policies, and processes.
  • Experienced in operating in a customerdriven environment to understand and meet customer/ stakeholder needs and able to understand the dynamics of managing customer relationships in a regulated business.
  • Politically aware and able to network (internally and externally) and present, to represent the interests of SSEN Transmission and its customers, and facilitate development of customer engagement.
