Job Purpose:

To participate in the Trusts manual handling training programme, to promote good manual handling practice in the work place.

To assist with administrative duties in relation to manual handling training to maintain accurate records and documentation.

Plan, design and development of a relevant training programmes to meet compliance targets and quality standards and reducing the risk of musculoskeletal injuries to staff.

Learning & Development Manager/Consultants/Advisors/Administrative team/Ward/Departmental Managers/Clinical Risk/Health & Safety/Trade Union and Safety Representatives/PFI Partners Risk Assessment Some VDU work.

Driving. Lone Working. Manual Handling. Exposure to body fluids, infection and radiology.


Key Responsibilities: 1.1 To deliver regular manual handling training and general back care advice to all staff groups by adopting a mínimal handling technique 1.2 Work with the staff at ward or department level, assist in identifying ways of advoiding manual handling and how to handle specific manual handling problems. 1.3 Advise the staff on principles of risk assessment relevant to manual handling tasks. 1.4 Assist with auditing of good practice within the work place according to Trust Policy and evaluate the effectiveness of training. 1.5 Liaise with Health & Safety Manager regarding the purchase of suitable equipment to eliminate or reduce the risk of manual handling.

1.6 To keep up to date on developments in the field of risk management and legislative requirements. 1.7 Assisting with writing reports relating to specific investigations conducted on wards or in departments.

1.8 To assist in the development of the annual training prospectus and the Trusts mandatory training needs analysis to include all lesson plans, training records, presentations and handouts, and identification of the equipment required for each session.

1.9 To assist the Health & Safety Manager in providing support and advice to Managers and staff when specific problems arise in the workplace.

This will include complex and/or specialised individual patient handling and inanimate load handling management issues.

1.10 To assist in undertaking trials and evaluations of products and relevant furniture, providing advice on the selection and purchase of appropriate items for departments to meet specific patient problems and the provision of training of staff in the use of specialised equipment to eliminate or reduce the risk of manual handling.

1.11 To provide support and training advice regarding muscular-skeletal care to Manages and staff when specific problems arise in the workplace.

1.12 Assist, support and deliver the provision of other Trust/Mandatory training and Education activities as required.

1.13 To assist in the participation of health promotion activities and Health and Safety initiatives as required. 1.14 Required to work across all three sites, Worcestershire Royal Hospital, Alexandra Hospital, Redditch and Kidderminster.
