MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES As a key member of the senior People and OD Leadership team contribute to the development and implementation of the Trusts People and OD Strategy and provide strong compassionate leadership to the People and OD teams.

Support the Deputy Director of People in providing a comprehensive People and OD service including the direct management of the Wellbeing, Inclusion and Engagement team, Workforce Intelligence team and OH team, pending the move to a NWL model for OH services and PA support to all Deputy Directors.

To support the Deputy Director of People and OD, through working with key members of the senior team, the management of the People and OD committees, ensuring the production of high quality papers.

The role will co-ordinate workforce planning, working with the HRBPs, Head of Workforce Intelligence and other key teams ensuring the Trust has a robust workforce plan in place.


Take the lead for the People and OD Directorate on HR related governance and compliance requirements, ensuring that relevant statutory, regulatory and professional standards are met in relation to workforce policies, processes and procedures Provide direction and support to ensure audits (internal/external) are organised as required.

This includes the arrangements for the audit as well as all required documentation to be made available and be responsible for ensuring all recommendations made following these audits are responded to as required and changes implemented and audited Develop and nurture a culture of continuous improvement and excellence in HR service delivery that ensures we always get the basics right.

Lead the development of enabling workforce policies and service standards for key areas of responsibility that meet operational needs and progress the Trust strategic aims and objectives Develop and promote positive and productive partnership working with staff and trade unions and actively involve them in both strategic and operational issues for key areas of responsibility Support the Director of People and OD in delivering on the People Promise and the key outcomes of the People Strategy.

To take the strategic lead on specific projects or pieces of work on behalf of the Deputy Director of People, working across the People and OD function and with key stakeholders taking responsibility for the achievement of outcomes within required timescales Ensure that there is a robust approach for monitoring the progress of a broad range of projects and change initiatives to ensure projects are delivered within the available resources and to the agreed timescales, providing regular reports and raising significant problems/issues in a timely manner so that early remedial action can be taken Deputise for the Director of HR&OD or Deputy Directors as requested and appropriate Ensure that the Trust is supported by a highly capable and professional People and OD team to support delivery of solution and customer focussed, streamlined and value for money services Manage contracts with outsourced providers linked to the functions within the portfolio Develop partnership working with the ICS and other partners, developing shared service models where appropriate and gain economies of scale from effective collaboration Effectively manage budgets as delegated by the Deputy Director of People and OD, checking all invoices, and be responsible as authorised signatory for budgets.


Responsibilities for Leading & Managing Line manage the Head of Inclusion, Wellbeing and Engagement, Head of OH, Head of Workforce Intelligence, PA for the Deputy Directors and any interim roles to support projects in the Deputies portfolio.

Provide strong and visible leadership to all managers and staff and contribute to the development of and compliance with corporate policy and decision making activity Ensure that the functions you manage are positive, proactive and influential in their contribution to the Trusts strategic and operational planning processes.

Ensure that workforce related risks are identified and addressed, and that these are actively monitored through the Trusts risk management framework and associated governance Promote the values, behaviours, vision, and goals of the organisation.

Support the ongoing professional development of all HR colleagues Provide strong leadership to teams across the entire function; acting as a credible source of knowledge and support Lead and evaluate the delivery of a robust HR interventions and programmes that continuously improve organisational performance and transformation through the use of leading edge and evidence based HR practices and interventions some of which could be of a contentious nature.
