Purpose of the role:

Reporting to the Client Solutions Director and collaborating with IT, the Head of Tax, National Tax Technical and People Development, the overall purpose of the role is to support "digital transformation" of the tax practice at Crowe covering

  • Efficiency and profitability
  • Training and continuous learning,
  • IT cost management,
  • Strategy and horizon scanning,

This will include:

  • Ensuring that we use the full functionality of our current IT solutions both to deliver work efficiently and effectively and to obtain information from our IT solutions (on trends, claims etc.) to allow us to win new work ("Efficiency")
  • Acting as an interface between the Tax Practice, People Development and IT to shape appropriate training and change management processes so that the Tax Practice embraces a "continual improvement" philosophy as regards the use of technology ("training andcontinuous learning")
  • Reviewing the IT solutions we have and making recommendations to simplify, or change or enhance what we are using ("Cost management", "efficiency")
  • Project managing the implementation of new technology solutions for the tax practice. ("efficiency", "training")
  • Researching tax technology solutions to meet client requirements, or that other firms are using to keep the tax leadership team aware of developments, assisting with "horizon scanning" to identify future needs and future tax practice skills gaps ("horizonscanning", "strategy")

The role:


This national role will work as part of the Client Solutions team, and will have a dedicated focus on the tax practice.

Anticipated projects / responsibilities include, but are not limited to:


  • Embedding measures to ensure that offices are using consistent national tax compliance and advisory processes
  • Identify and implement actions required in preparation for the forthcoming transition to MTD for Income Tax and Corporation Tax
  • Working with other specialists to consider how data analysis and data science can be used to 1) facilitate the way we collect, clean and process client tax information, 2) automate mundane processes, 3) provide insightful dashboards that bring togethercompliance reporting and workflow information to support process management and risk mitigation and 4) generate automated reports to accompany the submission of tax returns to clients
  • Create a plan for improving profits by automation, the software used, processes and the location where work is done (centres of excellence, compliance centres)
  • Working with internal or external IT consultants to develop the brief for and the technology specifications for client solutions. Undertaking testing with clients of technology solutions to make proposals on price to charge, value, and how to maximise profitabilityfrom investment in new IT.
  • Define and collate content for the Tax pages of the Client Solutions Team Site on Crocus, Crowe's Intranet.
  • Facilitating a common approach to software experts / superusers across offices to ensure we maximise the benefits and functionality of our existing tax technology solutions and harness and share knowledge nationally
  • Working with National IT training and People Development to:
  • Design the format and content for tax IT induction training,
  • Working with National Tax Technical to design and implement a knowledge sharing/IP solutions using either Crocus, M-Files.
The role will primarily be based in Crowe Oldbury office, but will involve travel to other offices.


Technical skills, experience & knowledge:


  • Adhere to the firm's risk management policies at all times.
  • Good understanding of a range of IT programmes.
  • Ability to plan and implement a project to timetable

Required qualifications:


  • ACCA or equivalent.
