Principle Property Lawyer - Essex - Permanent - Mostly Remote -


Venn Group's specialist legal team is currently working with an established Local authority in the South East of England who are recruiting for an
Principle Property Lawyerto join their department.

This is a full-time position for 35 hours per week. This is a permanent role. This is mostly remote, except for the occasional committee meetings.


Work/ Duties

  • This role is the Council's expert for all matters relating to land and property law, providing technical and professional advice to officers and members and contributing to the overall direction of the Service.
  • Advising on all aspects of residential and commercial conveyancing and associated matters, i.e. drafting commercial leases, licences to assign, rent reviews, notices under the Landlord and Tenant Acts
  • Advising on land/property acquisitions and disposals on behalf of the Council
  • Acting as the lead officer in relation to all conveyancing and property law matters and to coordinate legal action in this area whether personally or instructing external legal support
  • Participation in project groups within the Council to advise on property law
  • Attendance as advisor at Licensing Hearings, experience would be an advantage or a willingness to undertake training in this area.

Key experience:


  • A qualified Solicitor, Barrister, Legal Executive or equivalent
  • Experience of dealing with complex land transactions
  • Experience of drafting commercial leases, licences to assign, rent reviews and notices under the Landlord and Tenant Acts
  • Experience in dealing with agreements relating to residential properties, including drafting and granting miscellaneous tenancies and licences
  • Drafting deeds of rectification, easements, wayleaves and release of covenants
  • Experience of advising on regeneration projects on the property law aspects and bringing in other legal expertise as appropriate
  • A willingness to be included on the Licensing Hearing Rota
