Hours: 35 hours per week (5 days out of 7, covering Monday-Sunday)

Salary: £10.86 per hour


What is the role?
As a Driver, you will be an integral part of our Transport Team, reporting to the Transport Manager.

Your primary responsibility is to safely transport small groups of passengers, including those with learning or physical disabilities, making public transport challenging.

Additionally, as part of the Donation Centre team, you will collect and deliver furniture and other items, supporting shops with stock requirements and helping achieve set sales targets.


  • Assisting the Transport Manager, you will be responsible for:_
  • Presentable, polite, and reliable service.
  • Knowledge of UK driving legislation and adherence to the Highway Code.
  • Excellent communication skills to interact with customers, relatives, and staff.
  • Basic literacy and numeracy skills.
  • Maintaining customer confidentiality and professional boundaries.
  • Working well as part of a team and driving with mínimal supervision.
  • A willingness to undertake a minibus driving assessment and essential training.
  • Holding a full UK/EU/EEA driving license with Category D1 or PCV, with no more than 3 penalty points.
  • A minimum of three years driving experience and being aged 21+.
  • Informing the Transport Manager of any driving license endorsements or amendments.
  • A satisfactory Disclosure and Barring Check.
  • Clean Driving licence.
  • Ability to carry out heavy lifting.
  • Good customer service skills.
  • Team player.
  • Good knowledge of the local area and ability to travel throughout Worthing and Adur, and occasionally throughout West Sussex.
  • Knowledge and understanding of the needs of older people, including people with dementia and/or people with learning disabilities.
  • Experience of driving a minibus.
  • Experience of furniture collections and deliveries.

Job Purpose

  • To safely transport small groups of passengers in an accessible Guild Care minibus or car, including those with learning or physical disabilities.
  • To comply with all statutory and internal standards relating to health and safety, UK driving legislation, and the Highway Code.
  • To take responsibility for safely operating the tail lift on a vehicle where applicable.
  • Working as part of the Donation Centre team, responsible for collecting and delivering furniture and other items to shops and members of the public, as detailed by the Donation Centre Manager.
  • To help the Donation Centre Manager in supporting the shops with their stock requirements and achieving set sales targets.
  • To be a positive ambassador for Guild Care.

Main Duties

  • Minibus Driver_
  • Professional and courteous behaviour at all times.
  • Wear a fluorescent vest when transporting customers.
  • Avoid driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
  • Ensure no smoking in or around a Guild Care vehicle.
  • Drive customers safely and timely.
  • Undertake route planning considering passenger needs and traffic conditions.
  • Responsible for fuelling and cleaning vehicles.
  • Perform daily safety checks of the vehicle.
  • Report any suspected vehicle faults promptly.
  • Ensure no unauthorized person is allowed to drive or be transported.
  • Ensure a transport assistant is present unless individually risk assessed otherwise.
  • Report all vehicle damage, accidents, and incidents to the Transport Manager.
  • Keep vehicles clean and tidy.
  • Operate the taillift and support customers safely.
  • Keep accurate mileage records.
  • Encourage and record feedback, including Complaints, Compliments, and Suggestions.
  • Collect customer charges and handle change.
  • Adhere to safety measures and Guild Care policies and procedures.
  • Carry out any other duties as required to enhance the work of the Transport Team.
  • Responsible for penalty charge payment incurred during duties.
  • Van Driver_
  • Keep the furniture warehouse clean and tidy.
  • Deliver good service to all customers.
  • Treat all customers, staff, and volunteers with respect and courtesy.
  • Collect cash payments for furniture and issue receipts.
  • Complete relevant paperwork and maintain records.
  • Register with the police as a key holder.
  • Responsible for vehicle maintenance and notifying the Donation Centre Manager of any problems.
