The organisation
IATEFL, the International Association of Teachers of English as a Foreign Language, is an international membership association with over 50 years of experience in linking, supporting and developing English language teaching professionals around the world.
The association is a registered UK charity with a Head Office in Faversham, Kent.IATEFL has approximately 3,500 members in over 100 countries worldwide. Over 300 of these memberships are taken out by institutions, which include academic institutions, private language schools and publishers.
In addition to its own members, IATEFL reaches teachers via over 100 associate teacher associations, as well as through its free online events.
Members of IATEFL choose to additionally join one or more of the 16 Special Interest Groups (SIGs) which are part of the wider association, and so personalise their membership.
Each SIG represents a specialist area, and offers its own events and publications in addition to those offered by the wider association.
Each SIG is managed by a small committee of volunteers.
