School Business Manager - Primary School - ASAP or January start
We are currently working with a fantastic Primary School based in Biggin Hill, Kent. The school is looking for a Business Manager to join immediately or from January on a part-time basis.

The vacancy arises at a time of significant opportunity to be involved in shaping the direction of the School.

As the School Business Manager, you will need to be good with people, inspirational, far-sighted, innovative, dedicated and commercially minded,as well as being part of the Heads team working alongside the office Manager.

JOB DESCRIPTION

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Finance and Accounting (in conjunction with the Finance Officer & Finance Assistant):

  • Preparation of the annual budget, governor reports and final accounts to monitor progress for the approval of the Governors. Regular management of monthly management accounts
  • Maintain and monitor internal controls to ensure prudent financial management as well as full compliance with Local Authority regulations.
  • Analyse financial performance and prepare reports for management and governors to assist with active financial planning.
  • Advising on general financial policy and statutory compliance including Best Value
  • Control the payment of all business expenditure and challenging procurement practices.
  • Oversee the purchase of all goods and services for the School.
  • Scrutinise and pass for payment all invoices received in the School.
  • Ensure that the financial transactions in the school are carried out in an appropriate manner and that the financial regulations of the Local Authority, Department for Education and the School are observed.
  • Completing VAT returns and other statutory returns as required Including CIF & other ESFA returns
  • Ensure the School has adequate insurance cover at all times to include but not limited to, buildings and equipment cover, employer's liability, personal accident, travel insurance, public liability and other relevant cover and seek professional advice onthe quantum and scope of all aspects of insurance cover at each annual review (as a minimum).
  • Manage the relationship with the School's auditors and all professional advisers.
  • Manage the payroll services for all school staff including the management of the pension schemes and associated services. (currently provided by Liberata)
  • Manage and lead on the monthend procedures
  • Produce year end Accounts and reports in conjunction with ESFA and Auditors
  • Be responsible for planning, monitoring and the submission of Academies Budget Forecast return to ESFA and Auditors
  • Monitor Nursery Income from Local Authority and chase any anomalies, including new extra 15 hours funding
  • Prepare Asset register and ensure all new acquisitions have been entered and movements monitored and updated.
  • Management of financial programmes including SIMS FMS and HCSS budget software
  • Hold regular meetings with the Head.
  • Oversee School Dinner ordering, meals Income and manage debt collection policy
  • Oversee School Clubs finance

Contracts Management:


  • Manage the Schools Contracts file and provide updates to Head/Governors as required.

School Management and Governance:


  • To work directly with the Head teacher in the preparation of associated materials, to attend when needed governor meetings
