Job Summary
To plan, develop and implement the FAB volunteering programme across the Wakefield area and to support and mentor new and existing volunteers in the area.
FAB works within culturally diverse areas, with a high proportion of families living in areas of deprivation.
The post holder will work with relevant partners to ensure that FAB is accessible to these and other population groups, vulnerable to health inequalities.
Main duties and responsibilities
- Work with community groups to recruit volunteers for additional roles as identified through meetings with senior managers
- Organise volunteer rota's to ensure coverage at groups/sessions/events
- Completing volunteer induction programmes
- Supporting volunteers through their training programme
- Build and maintain an excellent up to date working knowledge of the FAB Service and role of peer supporter including boundaries
- Ensure that professional and quality support is provided to families at all times during antenatal and postnatal contacts
- Proactively recruit and select volunteers to support the FAB service to facilitate breastfeeding peer support within group settings
- Offering continuous support, coaching and mentoring to volunteers with regular supervision sessions
- Promoting the breastfeeding peer support service with partners, building good working relationships and referral pathways
- Promoting FAB peer support to local families through community events/information stands
- Liaising with suitable venues to build relationships, place a volunteer(s) to run weekly a breastfeeding group; support at dropin clinics; awareness events and other activities
- Supporting fundraising and participating in company wide development of income generation
- Produce a monthly monitoring report, detailing performance and contributing to quarterly reporting
- Produce and maintain accurate training records for all volunteers
- Working alone using initiative and working as part of a team
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Ability to promote volunteering opportunities within the local community
- Ability to plan, deliver and evaluate groups/activities with families, volunteers and the wider community
- Excellent organisational skills to maintain volunteer records and prepare the volunteer rota
- Working knowledge of IT software packages. E.g. Microsoft Office, Publisher, Excel and Outlook
- Ability to communicate with a wide range of people both verbally and in writing
- Ability to attend meetings with partner agencies, one to ones and record and document outcomes
- Ability to coordinate volunteer meetings, one to ones and any events and activities seen as appropriate
- Work within the local community to identify and recruit new volunteers
- Supervise/mentor existing volunteers to assess and report any training needs
Knowledge of the following are desirable but not essential:
- Breastfeeding standards in line with UNICEF
- Breastfeeding Peer Support Experience
Additional Requirements:
- Some positions require the use of personal vehicles on FAB business. Individuals must be physically capable of operating the vehicles safely, possess a valid driver's license, MOT and business insurance and have an acceptable driving record. Use of a personal vehicle for FAB business will be prohibited if the employee does not have valid documents
- Prepared to work flexibly to cover evenings and weekends as and when required
- Commitment to personal development through supervision, training, appraisal and study
- To undertake other duties as may reasonably be required within the general terms of the job description
Financial Responsibility
This post holder does not have any authority to sign any legal agreements or commit the company to any contractual terms or arrangements
Job Types:
Part-time, Fixed term contract
Contract length: 36 months
Part-time hours: 12 per week
Salary:
£10.42-£11.00 per hour
