The role will play a key role in managing the corporate tax affairs of the abrdn business and will be responsible for:
- Leading the provision of a comprehensive corporate tax reporting and compliance service to support the UK and international business
- Ensuring effective processes are maintained and continuously developed to meet external and internal tax profile reporting requirements, including country by country reporting
- Overseeing, and ensuring effective partnership with, service providers for global compliance activities
- Leading and representing tax on projects to adapt and implement processes to deal with business and tax changes e.g. BEPS 2
- Ensuring the effective implementation of, and reporting under, transfer pricing policy across the group
- Establishing and maintaining internal tax policies and procedures and coordinating with colleagues globally on such matters, where appropriate
- Ensuring the maintenance and development of an effective tax risk and controls framework for the business, including oversight of SAO process and tax support for CCO framework
- As part of the tax management team, developing strategic plans for the ongoing development of the tax function
- Oversight of business management activities for the tax function
The role holder will be supported by a team and will work closely with other senior members of the tax function to develop both the tax strategy of the business more generally and the tax function's role within the business.
The role holder will be required to develop a good understanding of how the business operates and work with a wide range of other business areas to ensure that tax is effectively managed across the organisation.
Key Responsibilities- Lead the reporting and forecasting of taxes across the Group- Lead the oversight of tax compliance activities for the abrdn corporate entities and support the relationship with HMRC and other tax authorities In conjunction with other senior members of the tax team, review and develop the tax strategy for the business- Supervision and development of team members providing applicable feedback, coaching and guidance- Work closely with other senior tax colleagues to ensure consistency of approach, sharing of knowledge and effective risk coverage for the business globally- Ensure effective processes are in place to ensure that the transfer pricing policy is applied accurately in reporting for each of the abrdn entities- Work with key business and external stakeholders to ensure that both ongoing needs and ad hoc requests are met in a timely and appropriate manner- Develop thorough understanding of abrdn business operations to ensure that all relevant tax risks and requirements are addressed- Work closely with other tax colleagues in the abrdn Group to ensure issues relevant to other tax areas are understood and considered as part of the above activities- Understand best practice and ensure industry representation for abrdn as appropriate with external stakeholders, including applicable industry bodies- Manage external advisors and ensure effective processes to actively manage outsourced service arrangements exist so as to ensure that service providers meet key deliverables- Qualified accountant / CTA at senior manager or director level- Strong UK corporate tax background with exposure to international tax issues preferred.- Experience in financial services or a large corporate group an advantage- Experience of finance transformation projects or development of tax systems an advantage- Strong preference for action and flexibility- Problem analysis skills- People management experience- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills- Attention to detail- Organisational skills- Background in asset management or financial services- Trusted, creates a credible impression and builds relationships build on respect.- Independent, self-starter who enjoys managing and analysing different streams of activity, with an eye for detail but an ability to stand back and see the wider picture.- An ability to adapt to change and a natural drive towards continuous improvement.
