Runtech is currently recruiting for an experienced Plant Operator based in our Blast Furnace Services Operations in Port Talbot.


Salary:

£12.09/ hour + Weekly Bonus (Equivalent Basic Annual Salary - £35,000), Working Pattern - 4 on 4 off (12 hour shifts).


Job Type:

This is a permanent appointment.


Location:

Based at the Blast Furnace Services operation within the Port Talbot steelworks.


Reporting to:

Blast Furnace Operations Manager


Job Purpose:


The main purpose of the role is to provide effective clearance of main runners, tap holes along with debris removal at the Blast Furnaces.

Other tasks will include the loading/shunting and removal of waste materials, assets and consumables from the Cast Houses.


In this role you would work as part of team who are accountable for the safe and efficient work for Cast House activities.

You will be responsible for the safe and efficient operation of mobile plant during your duties.


Duties

  • To operate various items of mobile plant to dig/hammer, load, and transport refractory/slag/iron debris, as directed by the customer.

Accountabilities

  • To conform to legislative and Company Health & Safety policy and requirements including the reporting of any defects, hazards and accidents.
  • Provide services in line with customer requirement and to carry out tasks in line with work instruction / procedures and health and safety procedures at all times.
  • Carry out prestart machine inspections in line with Company policy.
  • Operate various mobile plant in accordance with licensing, Health and safety and site requirements i.e., loading shovels, tracked excavators, skid steer loaders, FLTs etc (this list is not exhaustive).
  • Communicate with the customer and operations coordinator to ensure any issues or areas of concern are reported.
  • Proactively look for continuous improvements within area of responsibility.

Qualifications and Skills
He/she will possess a good time and attendance record and demonstrate flexibility in the work place.


Essential

  • Proven Heavy plant operational experience 5 years working with refractories.
  • A current UK full driver's licence.
  • Comfortable communicating with their colleagues and external suppliers/clients.
  • A team player who can enjoy a challenge.
  • Demonstrate competence in the maintenance and repair of heavy plant and equipment.
